Ernie Andrews Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Just thinking about records that are not rare- Infact common but actually are rare as a white demo. When did you last see one of these?
Guest Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Nice one...that's a thang of beauty to my eyes Love that track...always have done...regardless of whatever genre you wanna plonk on it 2

Swifty Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Mine is The Amazers - Without a Warning - Looks well nice on a W/D (as do most records IMHO) Swifty Sorry just read RARE demo , I don't think this is ??? Edited May 6, 2013 by SWIFTY
Peter Richer Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Good topic! Many absolute classics fall into this category. A few nice examples: Mamie Galore - It Ain't Necessary - St. Lawrence Spyder Turner - I Can't Make It Anymore - MGM (although this is, of course, yellow) Darrell Banks (both of them) - Revilot Precisions - If This Is Love - Drew Epitome Of Sound - You Don't Love Me - Sandbag (although the issue is actually quite expensive now) Gloria Jones - Tainted Love - Champion (also getting a bit pricey on issue) Jackie Lee - Oh, My Darlin' - Mirwood Edited May 6, 2013 by Peter Richer
Peter Richer Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Oh, and how can we forget: Al Wilson - The Snake - Soul City ... seriously, please, how can we forget ... any suggestions most gratefully received?!! Edited May 6, 2013 by Peter Richer 2
Popular Post Pete S Posted May 6, 2013 Popular Post Posted May 6, 2013 Steve I think I sold you a couple of rare 70's white demos - I've not seen copies since: Andre Maurice - You're the cream of the crop - Bale WD Kim Tolliver - I don't know what foot to dance on - Castro WD both of those must be mega rare but both are cheap 4
Peter Richer Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 To help us get Al Wilson out of our heads, I'm sure we can all think of loads of fantastic white demos on the Motown labels and Atlantic. Even these two: Miracles - Tears Of A Clown, and Soul Brothers Six - I'll Be Loving You are very decent collectors' pieces.
Swifty Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Must admit I seem to be going through my White Demo phase again ! Used to have loads of Roulette & Okeh demos (got nicked , bastards !) just something about them ? or am I just sad Swifty 1
Peter99 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 or am I just sad Swifty Don't be sad Swifty. Drink more. Peter 1

Premium Stuff Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 (edited) Here's a rare one I have which is nice. Google is easier than scanner though. Looks like a Carl P scan from eBay - think I remember this one. Some folk say it isn't a demo because it is just plain white with no "DJ" or "Not For Sale" stuff on it. I say - demo, demo, demo What a fantastic record! Cheers Richard Edited May 6, 2013 by Premium Stuff

Jim G Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) Here are a few from me Jimmy Bee & The Supremes is rare as hell (especially in minty), some others are rare, others I don't know. Edited May 7, 2013 by jim g 1
Chris L Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Here are a few from me Jimmy Bee & The Supremes is rare as hell (especially in minty), some others are rare, others I don't know. I sold my Spinners demo for about £40.00 1
45cellar Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Not White DEMOs, but easy on Stock Copy compared to the DEMO 1
Tezza Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Steve I think I sold you a couple of rare 70's white demos - I've not seen copies since: Andre Maurice - You're the cream of the crop - Bale WD Kim Tolliver - I don't know what foot to dance on - Castro WD both of those must be mega rare but both are cheap Got an Andre Maurice WD about 6 Months ago for £40. Would love a Kim Tolliver, have the issue. What about 'You Don't Mean It Towanda Barnes' - A&M WD Not really seen many of those about
Andreas B Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Oh, and how can we forget: Al Wilson - The Snake - Soul City ... seriously, please, how can we forget ... any suggestions most gratefully received?!! I thought we were all collectively trying to forget "The Snake"? 1
Peter Richer Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I thought we were all collectively trying to forget "The Snake"? ...errr, wasn't that kind of the thrust of my last comment ... with an attempt at a dash of 'humour'?! A difficult demo nonetheless though, and looks good too.

What about 'You Don't Mean It Towanda Barnes' - A&M WD Not really seen many of those about Loads of Towanda Barnes about The Andre Maurice and Kim Tolliver are good examples 1
Andreas B Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Right, then it should be filed under "Rare Demo - AWFUL record"
Tricky Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I have to disagree about the Motown group demos being that rare.Sorry!!!!! Difficult to find in decent nick a lot of the time though and perhaps certain pressing variations.
Benji Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Tony Clarke - Landslide - Chess Eddie Parker - Love you baby - Ashford Both rather cheap on issue and very rare on demo aren't they?
Guest Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) A few more that are tougher than their regular stock copy counterparts Edited May 8, 2013 by Flynny 1
Mal C Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) Ive got a Demo of Thomas Henry - Someday on Spar, which is pretty rare, Not a white demo, But with Demo written in... here's another, sandy Hollis on WD.. Dave Moore Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The Melvin Davis Groovesville Demo is nice. I've been looking for a VG+ for over 15 years! Have an issue and had a battered demo but got shut, just didn't look the part with the others!Might do a piece on Demos, their role in promotion and and the psyche behind collecting them for the Bridligton Mag? Think that would fly?Regards,Dave
Guest Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) Tony Clarke - Landslide - Chess Eddie Parker - Love you baby - Ashford Both rather cheap on issue and very rare on demo aren't they? The proper original issue of Eddie Parker with the large Archer stamp, will not be cheap as it is hard to find. Edited May 9, 2013 by Guest
Rick Cooper Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Outside of the northern soul titles some of the rarest demos of cheap records could be of million sellers. Just plucking three at random has anyone got any of these on demo; Wilson Picket "In the Midnight Hour", Otis Redding "Dock of the Bay", Johnnie Taylor "Whose Making Love". If there are any around I bet there trashed. They may not be expensive but probably hard to find in nice condition. Rick 1

I've got some hellishly tough promos many of which have never made it to either Discogs or E-Bay yet..... Ian D
Northern Soul Uk Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) Got this last week, posted it then but not in this thread. Edited May 9, 2013 by Northern Soul UK
