Popular Post Paul-s
I would like to see any collective of DJs that buzz of each other, listen to the whole nights music and determine their plays from that and what they 'feel' is needed to add to that. Yes it's great when there is a nice 'camaraderie' between the D.J's - It really does make for a good night There's nothing wrong in working out a set beforehand (I always spend a lot of time working on a set prior to an event) admittedly, usually changing it somewhat to suit any given night, but it gives me a 'foundation' to work on - It works for me anyway. .......and it gives Brian Goucher and 'the like' a tremendous laugh, when they ask me how many records I took out of my set after I've finished my spot, having taken bets on it knowing the hours I've put myself through at home! ....Hey, that's me. In fact usually they don't even know its been played already as they don't care or listen to the other sets before or after them. I actually liked double decking if it was with someone who's listening and it can often inspire new choices and keep a dj on their toes.....BUT, it can also be a f---king disaster and frustrating if you have nothing in common.ha! best P . NEV
I was really enjoying this post with genuine interest, because the choices put forward were / are pioneers ,who have shaped the scene . Hi Nev, This reads a bit contradictorily (to me) You say “choices put forward were / are pioneers ,who have shaped the scene …..People who were there when a lot of records were discovered in abundance…” ….There’s three ‘were’s’ in there — nothing wrong with that, but surely we are talking about D.J’s “in the past” which were “the good old days” I genuinely don’t see anything wrong with the thread, yes, it may go ‘off on a tangent’ slightly (as they all do) but that’s all. I did say in an earlier post "Can we change this thread to 'D.J's I Would Love To See 'more' Behind The Decks rather than 'Back' Behind The Decks" for that exact reason. I think the thread is actually staying 'on track', but (like me) you would like to see other more 'up to date' suggestions of D.J's. P.s We're were /are ..I don't profess to have a degree in English ,so excuse my bad grammar Arrr, I think you mean it went a bit 'bristly', or at least had the risk of going that way (fair point, if it came across to you like that, but I was ok with it) Ref your 'were's - They were correct actually mate - I also don't have a degree in English and even if I did, I would never pick up on something so personal as people’s grammar, that would be ignorant. Some people may not be that articulate, but as long as they manage to get their point across, it doesn't matter a dot. I highlighted them as a 'past tense' to make my point that's all. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy writing, and I actually find it easier to express myself though it better than in conversation. One thing good about this internet business, is that we get to chat to people that more than likely we would never have met, and (in most cases) get to know them that little bit better.....Or at least get 'an impression' of who we are talking to......One can be disappointed or surprised when you meet someone you've chatted to on line for years though! ......Now look what you've made me do - Completely 'off topic' All the best, Len Edited May 11, 2013 by LEN Link to comment Social source share

Eh up Len. Thar means "you" up t'north Just to clarify I wasn't being rude, I was simply expressing an opinion about DJ's and what I've liked to hear since I was a young un on this scene and carried forward to this day. Neither did I quote you, I made the comment in post three so why Nev had to wait for three pages to pick up on it and say I took the topic downhill after just two replies is beyond me, maybe he has other reasons aside from this topic? Yes I get to the point and don't speak with a fork tongue, as you say I tell it like it is. Maybe if others did the same things would be a lot different and for the better instead of cryptic posts. Anyone who knows me knows I am not rude. Anyway I've enjoyed he topic, some top lads mentioned, many who did make a difference and I can certainly understand Russ' and others wanting a taste of better days when the scene is so oldies orientated these days with very little imagination except in venues where those that attend are definitely in the minority. Come the revolution we might get back to those kind of days when Dj's had imagination and a record was played because of its quality not its price tag. I'm all for new DJ talent & support the ethic entirely....but most of the people from the relatively recent past mentioned so far could set a room alight with their personality alone, before they had even put a record on the decks, the anticipation was palpable....not something I see much these days Im afraid. There are many DJ's out there with great records, but I'm afraid a lot dont have the personality or skill to set a venue on fire....I would also add that promoters on the whole (not all) dont help, a venue should have a clear music policy & the residents & guests should be selected to drive that policy forward....punters then feel part of something special, its all a bit wishy washy these days...the ability to find, play & make records massive is the realm of the few these days, the only criteria for a record being played & going 'big' was quality, nothing to do with price or rareity, altho many records that were loitering in boxes quite cheaply (& still are) later due to demand, turned out to be quite Rare.
