Pete S Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 After hearing part one yesterday, some people asked how we managed to be on the ball as far as sounds went when we just a village youth club (albeit the biggest village in England with a 12,000 or so population back then). Well I missed the Catacombs because I was just entering onto the Northern scene just as it closed - plus I was only 14. In Willenhall (Wolverhampton), there was a youth club called St. Giles (aka Sammies) and from 74 or maybe 75 to 77 they held superb allnighters there, my parents actually let me go, aged 15, and this place had top DJ's like Pep and Max, who had all the big sounds. So we heard them there and then went about getting them for our own youth club. And of course older members had started going to Wigan, hearing new sounds and getting them cut, we soon followed in their footsteps. Anyway, here's another hour and a half of great memories. I may do one more of these. dthedrug Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 HI PETE I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THIS DOWNLOAD, IT REMINDS ME THAT I WAS ONCE THE YOUTH CLUB DJ BACK IN THE 7ts, as such I turned a lot of people on to RARE SOUL, All are like yourself still very much into soul, it is a good feeling when someone tells you that you were the person who introduced them to th scene, even more so if they come from the HOME COUNTIES as there was nobody else doing this, back then, it's a big shame that the YOUTH CLUB CULTURE has gone? Middleman Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Probably a lot to do with nostalgia but feel good factor through the roof listening to this. They (maybe they are) should be available to buy as CD or download, you could do a series "youth club classics" or something like that. Do another one please Cheers S
Pete S Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 It's almost ready, I just have to mix it, this time I've included a few commercial things like Jesse Green, Jimmy Bo Horne (GimmeSome), Al Matthews etc, just so people didn't think it was all full on Northern back then...Middleman I know what you're saying about the feel good factor - absolutely 1
