What A Cracking Tune - Pity It Doesn't Get Played Anymore

Whilst going through an old box I played " Little Edith - I Couldn't Take It".  What a cracking tune I thought to myself  .  and why oh why do I not hear it out.

It's in my play box now and I'm loving it....

What forgotten 45 would you like to resurrect and do you think it would still cut the mustard in 2013??

Agree about Little Edith i have always liked it and its in my box too.It was a minor spin at the casino i believe.Trouble is when ever you mention reactivating a certain record you can be sure someone will come on and say we have been playing it at our club for ages so its adifficult one. My nomination would be this Detroit oldie which i would love to hear out more often.

Both sides are great (imo) topside being a Supremes type and t'other a Detroit class record. Also came out on Track (UK) as did a lot of Detroit stuff in the 60's primarily by the Polydor label (polydor, track, etc)

I've put a few hour and a half mixes of underplayed stuff on my YouTube channel and one has about 25,000 hits so there must be people interested in underplayed stuff.I've been busy buying this sort of stuff for years whilst people have been buying the next reggae soul 45 s...the next popcorn biggie....the next r and b biggie.....can we keep this thread quiet.....

If you want some underplayed records look through this lot....

There will be plenty of good dancers unknown to the dance-floor today simply because of the DJ's today all chasing and playing the same records.

Yes you're right Chalky and I already have done - great times!!

The reason why record's are forgotten is that djs do not know them and the dancers just want the same classics

....especially if they are cheap.......Sooooooo many have been left 'under used' - There's an absolute 'Wealth' of tunes to be 're-discovered' / 'Someone to say it was played at Stafford' / and enjoyed once again

.....and I'm only talking about the 'Midtempo Stompers'.....hang on - Is that an 'Oxymoron'?....Like 'Good R'n'B'.....Or 'Police inteligence'

All the best,

Len

I recon this needs re-activating…..Apparently a ‘Massive’ Leicester sound, but I think it’s been ‘shelved’ for 20 years now — It’s such a shame, that once records have ‘been done’ they sometimes get forgotten. Well at least by D.J’s that are only after the latest ‘must have’ - Meant in the nicest possible way of course (because I’m nice )

….Queue, someone saying “I played it last month at ‘So and So”….I couldn’t give a sh*t - I didn’t hear it….and that’s what matters to me and ‘my ears’….That quote always makes me smile by the way....“Plenty of sounds were new to ‘my ears’"…..Who else’s ears are you going to use?!!! …Sorry, I ‘digress’….. :D

Joyce Bennett - The New Boy

All the best,

Len

The old "underplayed" topic raises its head again

Good to discuss but I'm afraid nothing will ever change  :(

Had forgotten all about Little Edith BTW one of many lurking in the darker recesses awaiting a prompt from someone

Maybe we should start 're-activating' some old threads. As time has passed, people change their views, or maybe completely missed some. Seriously (as you have pointed out) some subjects do get done, over and over again - maybe Mike could see if there’s anything of interest 'lurking' in the archives and pop one up each week…..I bet there’s some cracking ones to ‘bring to the surface’ again - he’s just got to find them amongst all the ‘O.V.O’ threads :D

All the best,

Len

P.s - I daren’t’ ‘re-activate' my 'What do you do for a living?' thread....I thought that had 'legs' and come up with some bizarre posts, like "I'm a Brain Surgeon" (or whatever)....alas, it didn't happen like that - In fact, someone posted "This is the most boring thread I have ever seen" (Which was my biggest ‘fear’ when I posted it up)…..and that kinda killed it.....I cried for a week....ok two weeks….I’m still soar now….. :D

P.p.s - Sorry, 'off topic' - I'm liking this thread regardless

Well I played Little Edith out for a couple of years recently and so did others (including Karl).

It makes me laugh that people complain about never hearing forgotten and rarely played sounds but they don't bother supporting the venues that actually try and do that.

:hatsoff2: HI ALL You are dead right TOADY BOY, However this situation has rattled me so often, and I still don't no the answer to the apathy of the scene, apart from the increased use of alcohol on our scene, which makes many people depressed, oh how sad the scene has become, at this rate the end is nigh, not for me I have enough chunes to last a life time, many are not played today as they are northern soul records, that means they are ideal for dancing, and you can't dance pissed up, Still we can't all be on the DEX CAN WE? :shhh: DAVE

some great tracks...a few being played down here in the sw but then some ive put back in the box and still been guilty of not playing...so many tunes and so little time..but having a monthly nite does mean im always trawling through the shelves picking out things ive not heard out for a while..id get bored playing the same thing let alone our regulars! and as i cant afford the next big thing or the BIG overplayed classics its something i not only enjoy doing but have to..underplayed alongside the cheaper lesser known

one from me then....anyone playing this blue eyed thing at the moment?..ive not heard it down here

You're right Matt thats why we have our Pure soul in the small room at the Crown, we know we'll never get more than @ 40 in, however there is the odd exception like when we had John Pugh on then ken onions,(got @60 in) oh well, we are keeping to our target of keeping away from cheesey stuff (there's an odd iccup from time to time tho') lol

A Revolution???  There's one this Friday..

But, you're right, if everyone that said they wanted to to hear something other than the well worn would turn up we'd all have a lock out.

Nevertheless...It's still more fun to have 40 or 50 in that want to listen than 300 that can't or won't.
