binsy Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Good for you mate, i've always loved the cheapies. I could never afford the big ticket tunes and go to the do's as well. I still get a buzz picking up forgotten Stax and Atlantic records 2
Steve G Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 no just pissed of with so called big namers that play safe and no I dont need the money Hi Flanny, I've observed that for several years now. "Baby love" by the Supremes is the next new big crossover sound etc.....Most weekendders are shockingly bad when it comes to playing recent discoveries and lesser knowns.....Anyway remember there are always collectors out there who appreciate these sounds! 2
NEV Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Joking aside ,a mate told me he was at a " northern soul " night and they played " baby love " and announced it as a big well known record at Wigan ! Bri ...don't do it ! 1

Mal C Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) Thats a shame, I thought 'Crossover' was the last bastion of Soul... If it keeps on the way were going you will all be listening Sister Funk and bad 8ts Modern records.... look for the tongue and the utter cheek... Edited April 18, 2013 by Mal.C. 2

Popular Post Chas Posted April 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted April 18, 2013 Flanny, always remember,no matter how many holy grail tracks the big money guys play, they never sound as good as when played by guys like yourself who have the history. No matter where you are, there's always a small percentage in the club who think that way.As for myself,my soul education beyond 1969 was shaped at the Orwell"where soul lives"great logo..and how true it was, best wishes from me & Eileen. 4

Guest Mrs M Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) I personally couldn't not say here that I admire you're attitude Flanny. I've attended venues since the late 8t's which yourself and Baz promoted from St Helens Rugby Club, to The Orwell and the small room at Lowton Civic where we had a great mix of modern/crossover to the rare 6t's. There was always a mix of great cheaper semi unknowns with some big money sounds thrown in where I never failed to have a magic night. There are now so many records I paid less than £10 for early 9t's cos they were fabulous now getting a spin so it's great to see true recognition.. I HAD to sell some of my bigger money tunes but all those cheap, semi unknown, harmony records have still left me with a super collection of quality. I salute you Brian. Now any chance of a loan? Lol xx Edited April 22, 2013 by Mrs M
