Always wondered what happened to the Banbury crowd who used to get the first train into Birmingham for the Locarno All Dayers back in 1977-78. There only used to be two soulies on the train from Reading, none at Oxford (Maybe they were all going to Yate?) and then a whole coachload of soulies from Banbury, out the the cassette recorder and on with "Capitol Soul Casino" to make the journey a bit more bearable. Into the pub at Birmingham then through the underpass to join the queue to get in. 2 names that come to mind are Mary Tohill and Mark Pardner. Happy days !!! whistling.gif:D:shades::D

Thanx for that,

.

You're right, Mark was a character I've got a C90 cassette tape of the Locarno somewhere in the house with him singing over the top of Chuck Jackson's "I've got the need" got to dig it out sometime and have a chuckle.

Another name that comes to mind now is Tony ? the surname escapes me but I can vaguely remember him with a slight chemical imbalance resulting in a 1000 yard stare for most of the day !!!! Ah the vagaries of youth :-(

I think Mary was planning to go into nursing and went to London for her training. I cant remember any of the other girls names who used to catch the train but I've got some photos somewhere which I'll try and post when I find the scanner (And get my 8 year old grandaughter to work it for me !!!) I do remember one used to work in the bra factory which was at the north end of Banbury. It's amazing what comes to mind when you try and think back to the old days !!! :wicked::lol::lol:

.

Cheers,

.

I know tony but cant remember his surname , we used to call him "corky" after the cartoon cat......... seen him at a few venues over the last 5 years or so & he still has the "manson lamp" eye`s.

Dont remember a bra factory  .......... without being rude a lot of the guy`s & girls were not full time soulies ( every week, niters) so a lot of names escape me but i never forget a face & sometimes that gives the memory banks a nudge for a name so if you can post up the photo`s it might help.

If you can locate the tape ........ is there chance of a copy, i`d love to get it to Mark.

If you check out my profile there`s a photo of Eddie & myself on there from the old day`s ( i`m the one with ginger hair & Edds next to me, then the half of a head is Mark Asmall & then Kenny miles) it might ring some bells for you.

Spencers was the bra factory Gary , in Brittania rd , just been demolished .Best ,Eddie

Gentlemen,

.

Thanx for the info. Its good to hear that some of the old crowd are still about. I will have a look for that tape and when/if i find it I'll PM you and we'll go from there.

.

If you see Mary, tell her Dave from Reading (Scottish accent, worked on the railway) was asking after her and hopes she doing alright.

.

Planning on heading for Prestatyn later this year, but a trip from Doncaster to Banbury for a soul night might just be in order, if only to surprise a few people.

.

Cheers,

.

Kev,

I'm the other Dave that used to travel with Dave Barker, he worked in a different department on the railway, The advantage of working on the railway was the free travel that we got, small recompense for the low wages at the time. I did the long weekend a couple of times, Wigan for the Saturday night and then onto Birmingham on the Sunday morning for the Locarno. Last train from Birmingham Sunday night then uo again at 0400 on the Monday to go to work in London, wish I had half that energy now !!!

I'll make some discreet enquiries as I think Dave still works in the Reading area.

Cheers,

.

The other Dave
