”C” on the Funk — In the disco — Sweet Thang / EX / £350 (Popular modern/disco soul spin. Rare 1980 Milwaukee release.)

 

Emerson - Sending all my love out / Why are you so cold - L. A. S. / EX / £225 (Pristine copy of this highly indemand piece of electro soul. Flip is decent two step.)

Santiago - Feeling good - Bam Buu / EX / £175 (Superb modern soul dancer getting some recognition lately but still under the radar for most. Very rare modern soul out of Philly. Label has a couple of neat looking stains.)"¨

 

Wizdom - I’m so in love with you - Drive / VG+ / £150 (Hard TK release on one absolutely great piece of modern soul. DJ friendly vinyl copy! Vinyl has a few scattered marks, most inaudible but there’s a few light pops starting a few seconds after the intro.)

 

Universal Love - It’s you girl / Moon ride - Glades / EX / £100 (Superb modern soul out of Philly but not with your typical Philly sound.)

 

Bobby Bowens & Shades of Magic — Gonna love somebody — Galactic Star / EX / £100 (Popular modern soul with a slight boogie feel. Like all other copies I’ve seen of this the record it has received the John Anderson/Soul Bowl-treatment. That is having the address scratched out, depriving the collector a neat looking record and the artist additional sales in UK at the time of the release...)

 

Johnni Starr - I done found myself - Blue Wave / VG / £100 (Superb midtempo modern soul, first release on the Hott Ice/Chain Reaction label and even rarer. Vinyl has plenty of marks, plays ok but not great. Soundfile is from copy for sale.)

 

Willie Dishmon — Work on it / I’m walking out on you — Jamila / EX / £100 (Frantic modern soul dancer backed with deep soul with a modern feel. First press original with the better more raw version. Promo copy)

Reflections - She’s my summer breeze - Capitol / EX / £10 (One of my fave tracks off the vast and great J.R. Bailey/Ken Williams Dish-A-Tunes catalogue. Essential stuff for anyone into quality soul music. Flip is a decent modern soul dancer. Flip has a X written with a filt pen on label.)

Rhythm Machine - Freakish love / Whatcha gonna do - Rodan / VG / £200 (Freaky dancefloor funk, backed with beautiful slowie. And again those amazing horns and tricky rhythms makes this a truly outstanding 45. Plenty of light marks, plays with some light background noise in places but never close to overpowering the music. Not one for the picky but both sides will sound good in your living room as well as in the club. The lower “Whatcha gonna do”-side plays slightly better than the flip too.)

 

Bert Bailey & the Jets — If I’m right — Jet Set / EX/flip is VG+ some jukebox like swirls not affecting play / £150 (Super rare and charming group harmony out of Barbados!)

Black Horizon — Black horizon Pt. 1 / Pt. 2 — Black Horizon / VG+ / £150 (Hard instro funk! Vinyl has a couple of neat jukebox marks not affecting play. Plain sleeve.)

 

Perfections — Get on down / Girl you better hurry — Tri-City / EX / £125 (Rare Detroit double header with two sounds currently in-vogue, A-side is funky northern soul and the flip is a excellent group cut.)

California Gold Notes - W.B. 302 - Aduwa / EX / £90 (Hard deep funk instrumental that was on the California Funk comp.)

Magnificent 7 - Never will I  / Ooh, baby baby - Dial / EX / £30 (Two quality sides, midtempo harmony crossover backed with a Smokey Robinson cover = what the lowrider scene is built around. The more simple red/black print design, label has a bb hole.)

 

Icemen - How can I get over a fox like you - Abc / VG+ / £30 (Group harmony of the highest calibre! Answer disc to their earlier outing on Samar. Truly magic stuff. Vinyl has just a few light marks making it shy of EX, plays loud and clear.)

Archie Bell & the Drells - Tighten up - Atlantic / VG+/VG+ / £20 (Classic album with standouts for me apart from the title track being “When you left heartaches began” and “A thousand wonders”. Stereo copy. Vinyl has some light scuffs but plays well, Cover is nice except from a cut out hole and 5cm upper and a 3cm lower seam split.)

Conway Brothers - Turn it up - PBT / EX/EX / £10 (Tough on US album which some say never came out in the US but here it is. “Over and over” and “Gonna refuse your love” are both super tough 2 steppers. The later is a different version of the 45 release on Gerim only available here.)

 

Lyman Woodard Organization - Dedicacion - Corridor / EX/EX / £10 (Pristine copy still in shrink. Including the epic stepper “Don’t stay away”. Just builds and builds.)
