Miracles (come 'round Here) I'm The One You Need C/w Save Me

A lovely clean 1966 British DEMO!

Smokey teams up with Holland - Dozier - Holland to create one of the Miracles most-memorable hits - backed with a strong Northern Soul dancer that use to received turntable time a few year back.

But this is the PROMO copy - not a record you see very often and in this impeccable condition hardly ever!

Butch And The Newports I'm Only A Man

Rare and underplayed spotters take time to reacquaint yourself with this beauty.

Almost invariably this delicious string driven cross-over Northern Soul dancer is only seen in poor condition. How pleased are we today to be able to offer a copy that will most embarrass the DJ with impressions of frying horse-burgers.

This captivating tune has received brief DJ turntable action over the years to enthusiastic connoisseur plaudits. So take another listen and we think you”ll be met by a tune you’ll be wondering why it isn’t already a monster

This is the extremely-SOULFUL end of Northern Soul, an under-played offering that just bristles with potential for a bigger ticket.

Jerry Naylor City Lights

Could Harley Hatcher or Mike Curb have envisaged whilst they were making this recording in 1965 they would both be at the helm of one of the world’s biggest record companies. CURB RECORDS now a worldwide name in music.

But back then they guided a former Texas DJ, who joined the Crickets after the tragic death of Buddy Holly. As their lead vocalist he made his name as an artist, in 1965 the Crickets split and Jerry went solo with fully 7 releases for Capitol on their Tower subsiduary. But only this single side met Northern Soul dancefloor requirements of frantic-feelgood, amphetamine fueled acrobatic stomping music that simultaneously shook the insides of The Casino & The Pier.

It matters not your past or your future if at some point in your career you recorded a 60s dance record with Northern Soul ingredients. Those NS vinyl-hounds will find it… they did just that around 10 years after it’s release and it’s been a favoured all niter choice ever since..

This copy is utterly spotless still hugging it’s birth sleeve.

Carlena Weaver Jealousy C/w Heart Break

Buffalo, New York Sister Northern Soul that has slept for far too long..

Let Carlena’s husky vocal take you to the dancefloor on a wave of horns; listen has her captivating voice flits in and out of the uptempo rhythm littered with timely primitive instrumental breaks that add to it’s irresistible charm.

A highly respected under-the-radar record that everyone has tipped to do great things at some point in time, but thus so far has not hit the heights it so obviously deserves. Vocal-brilliance embroidered into one hell of dance production.

This 45 has everything! including a Deep Soul ballad flipside that suits Carlena’s anguished demeanor even better - as she delivers a down-on-your-knees performance supported by those primal horns throughout.

Two killer tunes - each and every serious Rare Soul collector should strive to own, which ever side appeals…

Various Artists Sue Story Volume 3

Guy Stevens takes a break from the front cover and hands the job to the Sue office cleaner! For this the lasdt in the 1966 series of SUE compilations.

Back cover notes are penned by non-other than the legendary DJ Mike Raven then a Radio 390 pirate DJ but later moving on to front Radio Soul shows and who could ever forget the Mike Cotton Sound - Soul Serenade Mike used for his theme tune , I can’t vouch for the cleaner but everyone else involved with British SUE was so very “hip”.

Don Varner I Finally Got Over C/w Here Come My Tears

I’m as guilty as the next man for the overuse of the word “RARE”. All records I’ve listed in recent times should maybe downgraded to “Scarce” “Seldom Seen” “Hardly Ever Comes To Market” “Disappeared” whatever adjective fits the listing.

But RARE does not go anywhere near to describing this huge helping of Birmingham, Alabama SOUL that treats us to stomping Northern Soul on one side and grievously-tortured Deep Soul on the flip.

A record that flaunts every aspect of what collecting Rare Records is all about. Tiny label, with both sides written by the artist himself, showcasing two aspects of his character. An upbeat dance side of pure street-level potency, no frills no fuss just “Foot-To-The-Metal” proper Northern Soul stomper of the purist kind - flip it and this great man spills his emotions for all to weep with him.

BEYOND RARE and awash with both despair & passion in equal amounts..

Sy Hightower I Know You're Leaving Me

Choice California pre-disco dance soul on the very attractive silver adorned design label.

Oakland doyen of the studio Willie Hoskins again arranges & conducts a supremely soulful assembly with Jerry Pittman & friends. The result as you will hear is a flowing jazzy emotion-filled stepper in which Hoskins marinates Mr. Hightower’s abrasive vocal chords with strings, a purring girl-group answering service woven together by persistent intricate guitar work. Then suddenly WH ramps up the girl-backing into a heavenly soaring experience that elevates the whole record into greatness.

Hoskins was a such an innovative craftsmen, his productions always carry that little bit extra for the ear & heart to contend with.

Mid-70s soulful dance records just don’t get much better than this - do they…

Little Luther Eenie Meenie Minie Moe C/w Twirl

Very RARE and utterly flawless 1964 UK DEMO of the Checker 1090 release.

After the premature passing of Elmore James @ the age of 45 his backing electric guitarist Luther “Snake Boy” Johnson recorded his 3rd single and only 45 for Chess Records. And what an uplifting session it was too..

Perfect feelgood jump-blues R&B MOD dancefloor cruiser no matter which side you drop the needle. Opening bars showcase this man’s intricate self-taught guitar skills, as his rasping throaty vocal glides into the rhythm.

Killer 60s Chicago Rhythm & Blues in by far and away it’s most desirable format…i’ll be sure not to mention the pristine condition …again?

The now all to familiar instrumental intro, without exception signals a Wildebeest style migration to the to the dancefloor!

As no matter how many times you’ve heard this prestigious slab of Northern Soul - you just can’t grow tired of those flowing harmony vocals woven into an absolute 60s dance-production.

Oliver Norman Drowning In My Own Despair C/w Your Love Counts

Seriously elusive 1967 BLACK stock that seems to be one of the most elusive of all those gorgeous Black Decca Northern Soul goodies we strive to own.

You would not know listening but this is a 1966 UK production with guitarist Shel Talmy transporting all his Chicago experience to London where he guided the Kinks & The Who through some fine R&B inspired recordings.

Likewise Oliver Norman’s session is an inspired Big Vocal beauty drenched with a Big City USA inspired horn arrangement and highly-pitched girl-group chorus the hallmark of so many Northern soul greats.

The combination of Norman Oliver’s writing & Shel’s production prowess pays off not once but twice as the “unknown” flipside is every note as rewarding.

Very rare in this format - and offering two sides of real quality British Northern Soul..not to be missed!

Donna King Take Me Home

This defiant young-girl message to her first night boyfriend with less than honorable designs on her, is considered the pinnacle of Sister-Northern-Soul. With Donna displaying an impassioned refusal to be taken advantage of woven into a strident dance production, that rattled the dance-floors of Wigan Casino, Blackpool Mecca & Cleethorpes Pier at the height of the scene.

We have often advised if you gonna invest in vinyl there are not too many better choices than rare New Orleans 45s… as in recent years they have become so much the rarer for tragic weather events.

This copy has light surface marks but as you can hear it’s plays loud, clean & clean with both labels flaw free other than minuscule light ridge wear. We feel owning this title is a very smart way to collect rare Northern Soul.

Barry St. John Everything I Touch Turns To Tears

UK only version of the 1965 Jimmy Clanton original. Listen to our own Mickie Most crafting a fine 1966 production of the Gary Geld & Peter Udell song into stomping Northern Soul.

In the 1976 / 77 era of Northern Soul finding British produced 60s dance tunes was at a fever pitch, with DJ’s like the legendary Cleethorpes Winter Gardens Nev Wherry or Wigan Casino’s Alan Rhodes at the forefront of any pioneering discoveries.

This very elusive 1966 was hugely popular at both clubs during that time. UK only and very rarely on the market - this copy is in unblemished flawless condition throughout. Take a listen to be transported back to those much-loved sets of Nev Wherry and Co.

Good God, that Carlena Weaver went for a lot didn't it !

Unbelievable, I cant believe the chap who won that honestly thought he was paying any sort of reasonable price, Perhaps he's a millionaire....

I remember getting this at Second City Sounds in Brum for £2, it was in the crap box along with stuff like Earthquake - Roy Hamilton etc... Local collector Dave English had turned his nose up at them, so I got the scraps..

I know, it was mentioned elsewhere, it should have been £65 not £650.

It's as if a bunch of lunatic Northern Soul millionaires have all escaped from an institution at the same time.

Can they throw some of their cash my way and put it down to diminished responsibility?
