Geordiejohnson
when i ran the friendship soul nights just to make things a bit different for the paying supporters i used to do a Free give away friendship soul review magazine, it included bits about the history of soul in Barnsley and Yorkshire, Guest DJ write ups record reviews, adverts etc etc and some tongue in cheek fun sections, in one I did a tribute to all the good music rags that have come and gone (smash hits and the like LOL) so i picked two tunes to sing along to with "amazin tough lyrics" and during the night of the venue I played the tunes and everyone had to sing along you see we were sick of the scene taking itself too seriously at the time so we had the odd daft sections just to make sense of it all. But here for you today is the reproduced page from The Friendship Pure soul review edition 8 of February 2004 get the two tunes on the decks and sing along If you click on the image you can see a clear image of the page Geeoooooooordie Edited April 7, 2013 by geordiejohnson Link to comment Social source share
Our Kid
Always been curious about Don Thomas Come On Train, at about 2.45 into the tune - sounds like he says "Come On For F***s Sake"? Paul Link to comment Social source share
Tony A
Not exactly on topic but the best 'eyebrow raising' lyric must come at the end of Jackie Wilsons 'I've Lost You' - comes at the end of the record as song: "I'm gonna kiss you in the morning where the sun don't shine" or at least that's what I've always heard it as. Top man! And that's what I've always sung it as, could be my ears though. Link to comment Social source share

Zoomsoulblue
Sometimes, you hear some mad lyrics, and you just have to laugh. Example of one I've just been listening to, BIG DADDY ROGERS, I'M A BIG MAN (MIDAS). 'I'm gonna take you to the woodshed, & drop a couple of planks on you'. Great record, but what's all that about then? Any more, anyone? Just a bit of fun. Aid Sweet Soul Music Listen to the lyrics 1.01 in “LIKE RUSS WINSTANLEY” It should be Mustang Sally - but when I was 17 off my head at the Casino and Russ was playing the record I thought fuck that must be good to have a record with your name in it — crazy but true Link to comment Social source share
Zoomsoulblue
James Bounty right at the beginning when it goes ding ding ding ding ding ding - you sing bombers and green and clears - it was just a song we use to sing on the way sad but again true Edited April 9, 2013 by ZoomSoulBlue Link to comment Social source share
Zoomsoulblue
Joe Douglas - 'Toss off and shout as loud as you can'.. Crazy Things! Ruby Andrews - Just loving you, near the end of the song, Rube can definitely be heard to sing "such a tit head" - no question! 2 mins 18 secs ... "such a tit head" - RULES 2 Link to comment Social source share

Hitsville Chalky
at Present I'm having a mad rush on writting songs and learning ... last year when pat lewis was here I took her her in the studio and cut two tracks on her , one of the tracks is titled .. "Now you got the key to my heart " . the lyrics of the track started with ... once I had no one to love Then i've found you and all of my cloudy days turned sunny and Blue .. ( I wanted to use some lyrics reflecting on one of pats old records and of course chose no one to love... lol ) 1 Link to comment Social source share
TheBigO
Whilst we ran the Sunday Soul sessions at the Cranks Wine Bar and The Angels Reply in Hitchin and Letchworth we were often asked for records where the titles were completely wrong: a few were 'You've Got VD' (Bobby Valentine 'Bad Breath'; 'Skinhead In The Snow' (Invitations - Skin In The Snow') and my all time have, after almost 10 mins of arguing with the guy that the record simply didn't exist and getting him to sing it to me!, the immortal 'I've Got A car Load!' (Manifesto!!!) I pissed my pants laughing :-)) ' Link to comment Social source share
Guest s0ul45
Obviously not northern soul, but a wonderful and hilarious piece of country soul by J Blackfoot entitled 'I Don't Remember Loving You'. The title suggests the story line and J Blackfoot is clearly institutionalised and in denial, but it culminates with him assuring his visitor that he doesn't remember her. 'Everyone I know here in this place is very strange. If you hand me my CRAYON I will gladly take your name, In case i run into the guy you knew'. So funny.
