Guest Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) another old classic that sounds great out loud and gets a good floor reaction sons of moses - soul symphony - coral ...or on the local label, Soft. Must admit, I prefer the version by Six Feet Under, 'Soul Over Easy', as it doesn't sound so sparse and the brass is sharper than a knife! Edited March 30, 2013 by Flynny 2
Guest Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I love that thunderous bass-heavy instrumental on a Bell acetate that Carl Fortnum used to play out at the Dome...just says. 'Moods' on the label...a real big hall sound that would fit in the scene during any period...classic NSoul.

sir cumference Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 a mid seventies (74/75) spin was 'new jack theme'- Centuries...it was a Sheffield exclusive i think in that i only ever heard it played by John Vincent..not even the Casino had it..very fast and furious i seem to remember it was covered as the Gladiators 'that Miami sound'.. Definitely played at the Casino at a similar time.Got it on an old tape.Didn`t know what it was called at that time.Mad,mad.mad. Definitely northern, rather than soulful.
SHEFFSOUL Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Definitely played at the Casino at a similar time.Got it on an old tape.Didn`t know what it was called at that time.Mad,mad.mad. Definitely northern, rather than soulful. ..doubtless JV played it at the casino..but i remember it first from Samanthas..deffo northern and pure nostalgia now.. 1

Pete S Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Always loved this one ........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmSOP1x1GbY Falbala - Magic Band (Not Available On A Comp CD Is It ?) I think it is, on a Goldmine insts comp
Pete S Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Want to part with it? You can pick it up fairly easily on a white label 45 with Barbara McNair on the other side. Just as 'legal' as the emidisc. It's pressed slightly too fast though, in fact all reissues on lp, cd and 45 that I'vr heard seem to be at like 48rpm
Guest The Record Box Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Seems that you are right Pete, I have found one which is for sale @15 quid. Managed to get an EMI disc Chiffons theme donkeys years ago.
Guest The Record Box Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Although having though about it, what about slowing down the pitch a notch?
Daved Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Jr Walker & The All Stars "Tune Up" has to be one of my faves
Citizen P Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 A nice builder, this one.Vocal on the flip.Cheap as chips. Rockie Brown - "Without a warning."...(or Brooklyn Horns - "Smith & Ninth"... ). And in a similar vein-Soul Inc. Funky Lady Part 3...
Guest Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Want to part with it? Sorry , need to keep this one. Pete's said its quite easy to get but not for me it wasn't. Was looking for age before I got hold of one. Might be my damaged ears but doesn't sound too fast either. Martin
Pete S Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Sorry , need to keep this one. Pete's said its quite easy to get but not for me it wasn't. Was looking for age before I got hold of one. Might be my damaged ears but doesn't sound too fast either. Martin I said the ones that came out on lp, single and cd were fast - if yours is an emi from the period, it's probably the right speed
Guest Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I said the ones that came out on lp, single and cd were fast - if yours is an emi from the period, it's probably the right speed Sorry Pete, Must pay more attention. Must have damaged eyes as well mate. Martin
