Sammy Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 https://www.ebay.com/itm/111027119861?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Ended early. I wonder what this would have sold for if the 9 day listing on ebay was completed...? Such a great record. Both sides. Been asking around for it a few times and completely understood that I should just leave the dreams of this one behind... Was a little bit surprised to see that this was a Memphis redord. Always thought it was recorded somewhere else... Does anyone know the story behind the record and the group?
Chalky Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Covered up by Butch mid to later 80's, forget off top of my head what it was covered as. Andy Dyson and Mick H also have copies and "Look At You" current big sound again, well both sides really.
Floyd Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 fantastic record, both sides, got it on an old BUTCH tape from years ago Adey Pierce found one at Austin record show years ago but someone bought it off him before he even got on the plane home, shame as i was buying a lot off big titles off him at the time and who knows may have even ended up in my box, but thats life ATB Floyd
boba Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 100% memphis. same label as the Fortes on Current and the names on the record were behind some other memphis stuff.
Fishcake Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I noticed there were no bids on the record,i got in touch with the seller and he told me it was pulled out due to a high offer,a great double sider imho.
Sammy Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Fortes on current? Interesting! Anyone got a soundfile of The Fortes record or know what it is like? :-)
Sammy Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 Was a bit sloppy when I did the youtube search. Still curious about the other side though...

Rushden Vic Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) Had this on a tape of Butchs in 1986 ish , there was no track listing and it took me over 10 years to put a title to all the tracks the tape also included Mr Lucky - born to love you , Little Ron And The Esquires - I found someone , West coast distributors - Girl i love you , still got it somewhere will have to have a search . Reckon Mr Dobson was a country mile in front of the chasing pack. Edited March 11, 2013 by midnight brew 1

Andy Dyson and Mick H also have copies and "Look At You" current big sound again, well both sides really. Butch played "there was a woman" covered as Masqueraders late stafford era, once asked him at the white swan to play it and he said " it's not ready for at least another 15 years yet". Suppose he was right. Still one of the great double sided group records taking pride of pace in my racks for many years... 3

Simsy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 So how many £k's for one in half decent nick? 2 apparently..
NEV Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) 2 apparently.. I think you'd be lucky to get one for less than £3k in decent cond P.s Answering your own posts ,especially when it's a question ,is a sign of madness Simsy Edited July 24, 2013 by NEV
Simsy Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I think you'd be lucky to get one for less than £3k in decent cond Now we're getting somewhere. Difficult to tell with these rare beasts, when was the last time someone bought one and what condition was it in. None of this helps with what an Ex copy for example might go for these days. £3k mark sounds realistic, just the waiting for one to come up (and of course have the 3k kicking about )

Corbett80 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) I'm pretty sure Butch had it in his box a few years back at £2500. Edited July 24, 2013 by corbett80

Soulman Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Have I done something 'illegal'? Has the tax year ended... ????
NEV Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Have I done something 'illegal'? Not sure Simon ,I'll phone my lawyer in the morning and get back 1
Chalky Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) It's hard to put a price on it as it has rarely come up for sale and so few copies about. If Nev would tell us what he offered to get the auction taken off then you'd have a good idea of a starting price Ted also got one, off the same seller I think he said? As Nev said though a starting price of £3k at least. Demand is rising now that it is finally getting the recognition it deserves at nighters. Edited July 24, 2013 by chalky
Ted Massey Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Have played it at a few Soul Nights as well to good response Chalky 1

Quinvy Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I'm pretty sure Butch had it in his box a few years back at £2500. That was in very poor condition.
Simsy Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 This one might well be up for sale very soon What, your copy Nev? 1
Guest Dale Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 This one might well be up for sale very soon They don't hang around long with you Nev........in the box and straight out.... .....hope ya well bud...

Chalky Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Never heard the other side to 'Look At You'. Wonder if there's a soundfile kicking about?it's on the podcast I did for Andy Dyson, look for my site in my signature then the podcast link. 1
Chalky Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I uploaded it to my mix cloud a while back .. Some say it's the better side too Google nev Griffiths and it should bring up my mix cloud ..look for Memphis soul Why Memphis? West Coast isn't it.
Simsy Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Some say it's the better side too Yeah I've heard that said. Having just listened to it or the first time, it doesn't come anywhere near the brilliance of the other side for me. It was comparable to something like Silky Hargraves for me, it was that good (ILAY). I dunno, few more listens maybe.. Thanks for the tips chaps.
NEV Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Why Memphis? West Coast isn't it. Memphis as far as I am aware mate It says so on the label Edited October 11, 2013 by NEV

It was comparable to something like Silky Hargraves for me, it was that good (ILAY). I dunno, few more listens maybe.. Thanks for the tips chaps. Its a great double sider and makes me smile at the thought of how it must have felt l ,to find a record on a pretty much one off label, then to stick it on a deck and hear both sides for the very first time ! I bet it brought a big grin or two and sent the heart fluttering I recall the guy who found mine ,a crate digger from Memphis ,who wanted to find out about it before selling it . He spoke to a few Memphis record collectors / historians ,and they had never heard or seen it before ! 1
