Fossev Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 i really love this tune and not being a soul scene person in the 70s and 80s wondered where it was first played and by who? was it a new release? how rare is it etc etc many thanks 1
Grumpyfella Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 i wasn't around at the time but someone told me it was Colin Curtis at the Mecca. also Dave Thorley told me the other week when i played it at Inner Circle Soul Club that the band were a lounge band and this was a 45 that they did to sell/give away at their shows ..Dave will probably post more info. killer oldie and the flip is pretty good too. cheers phil
Dave Thorley Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) They were the house band for Peg Leg Bates's country club in the Catskill's, New York state. Most of the copies were sold to the clientele who came to the club, hense it never turning up in any quantity. Was re-issued in 2006 on the mighty fine Lotusland label Edited March 3, 2013 by Dave Thorley 2
Rushden Vic Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) First played by Colin Curtis at Blackpool mecca in mid 1975 as a new release, I remember having it on one of my wants lists in the late 70s but could never find a copy then along with Clevland Eaton - Quazer one , both first played around the same time Edited March 3, 2013 by midnight brew 2
Cunnie Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Was also due for a UK release on the BBE label but only got to the test press stage (I think). Managed to aquire one of the 12" test presses along with the press release showing a Jan 1998 release. Longer version too & no bad thing either as the 7" Ramco copy is way too short IMO. Seen several 7" copy's but never seen another of the 12" test presses but have been told of others so guessing it's also quite rare like the 7" press. As far as I know Mainor Ramsay actually had a hand in the Lotusland release.
Cunnie Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 bbe cd Correct Tim. Was it one of Keb's comps? Possibly a Deep Funk one but would involve me leaving a comfy armchair. Also on one of those Modern Millionaire things.

Cunnie Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 disco specturm i think a 2 set cd way before keb ! Bloody hell Tim, I was comfy but had to check. Correct as it was Disco Spectrum vol 1 compiled by Joey Negro. The Goldmine thing was Modern Millionaires. The 12" that Iv'e got also has a remix on the other side done by DJ Harvey & there's also a Restless Soul/Phil Asher mix on it too. It was due for release on 19/1/1998 according to the press release & the white label has BBE 12005 written on it. Now can I go back to my comfy armchair & my Sunday afternoon slumber 1
Rich B Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I've also got one of those BBE 12" found in a random record shop in Leicester when searching for obscure soulful garage, princely sum of £1. It also has the BBE no. written in felt tip, long version one side and I thought the normal 7" version - certainly not leaving my armchait to look for it!
