you should have returned them...your decision

yes but i would have then been out of pocket having to pay the postage at least recorded or registered and not have the record either , thus ending up with less money to buy the record with in the future through no fault of my own

I'd have refunded your postage Dave.

I think we are disappearing up our own fundaments here.

Its just common sense to describe the 45 accurately to avoid returns.

Tiberius I think you're being rather hard on Pete there. I buy off him and he is one of the few where my heart isn't in my mouth when Im opening the packet. Im so fussy I make Premium Stuff look slapdash. Pete knows his customers and in my experience is very accurate with his grading. He tells me if anyone has breathed on it within the last 10 years.

The original question was concerning the effect on the value which as PhilD, Nev and Dave Pinch have pointed out is variable. If a beat-up A side barely has an effect in a lot of instances then the B definitely wont. However Im concentrating on the actual grading.

The only thing I disagree with on these recent posts is Dave Pinch's [go to naughty step] assertion that it is up to buyer to ask. No its not. Its not up to buyer to ask if WOL or TOL etc so why make an exception for condition of the B side. Of course if when selling you have the full refund no quibble guarantee then the customer is protected.

Like Dave Wapples I've had odd 45 that was trashed on B [scratched and clicked]. Actually bought for a mate and despite my advice he kept it. I would have sent it back and advised the seller so. I wouldn't now buy off that seller. And yes it is a ballache having to send stuff back.

Yes pete i know you would and so would another dealer i use but the ones i wanted to return the dealers wouldnt so either risk sending uninsured and possibly end up with nothing if it got damaged or keep record i was unhappy with

Surely a 45 with 2 mintish sides (both the popular side and the less popular side) is more desirable (more valuable) than the same 45 with a mintish 'A' side and a trashed 'B' side?

Depends.  If I was buying say Cajun Hart on UK Warner Bros for myself, if the A side was mint I'd pay the same if the b side was only fair.  I would never play the b side, ever.  If I was buying a London demo of Our Love/ Open The Door, I'd want both sides to be the same condition.

That wasn't my point Pete, my point is 'if' I had a choice of a Cajun Hart (or any other 45) with 2 good sides or one with a trashed 'B' side, I wouldn't expect the prices to be the same,

I give up - it's like the flat-earth society around here sometimes  :dash2:

Anyone planning to sell one-side-only-graded records on here should please first note Rod's post (#13) about the site sales rules.

Over and out

Cheers

Personally I do it for the groupies and getting a table at the best restaurants.

Lets not all get too polarised over this.

Main point is to describe record as accurately as possible and stand behind what you sell as would a Yorkshire sheep farmer, though perhaps not quite as close as that.  Could be mistaken for.....
