"YOU KNOW WHO U R !! lol please soul fans dont make me have to force u to snort ur talc off the table ! lol see u all at st doms next week ! dont talk my corner or the teddy bears gettin thrown out of the pram ! come on you lot ! any miss-haps broken bones or other injuries threw these mindless talcumfools ? micky p in the toon.
Tezza Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 My name is Terry and I am a User !! Totally agree mate. I am a slidey Dancer with Leather Soled Shoes and have always used Talc. I just put it down under my own feet and use it so. The floor is generally big enough to cater for those who do and those who don't. The main problem is with the people who use it like they are Crop Dusting, walk ito the middle of a floor and spray the stuff everywhere. Its a matter of common curtousey. Enough room in this world for everyone. My name is Terry and I am a User !! 1
Guest micky p Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 am gonna grass them up to johnsons ! well said tezza ! they are like dogs in heat "gotto leave me scent ! lol ST DOMS ! NAMED AND SHAMED ! KTF
Guest soul elite Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Here we go again... Surely if kept to a minimum for those who need it its ok?
Back Street Blue Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Agree that too much is a pain in the arse, but a bit of talk helps me to dance. I've never taken my own, I just walk through other people's and that's usually enough to do the trick. What does me in though is when the floor in the Gent's is swimming and my shoes get wet, then its a pain if there is no talk! Remember going to the revived wheel at Whitworth Street once when some bright spark threw a load of waxy type soap pieces on the floor and it was like an ice rink, so know what you mean when its too slippy. Get some leather's on mate and sling your trainers, that's the easy option. 2
Guest Dale Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Well this topic as come at the right time. I run a venue and only last week recieved a phone call from the manager regarding an issue with talc. They have never in the passed bothered that talc been used,up and till now when an accident happened at a local scooter club get together were a person slipped and broke her arm. Very unfortunate i know, but talc banned now. Use it myself were needed as some floors are hard work...... Edited February 22, 2013 by Dale
Back Street Blue Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 A Why do your punters need talk when they dance at that slow pace (only kidding Len) B Don't let old ladies in, they're notorious for deliberately falling over to get a bogus claim in, bloody compensation culture pensioner b*ast*rds (still only kidding Len) C I think that Johnson's baby powder bottle is a cover up 1
Guest soul elite Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 guess you're a 'sh%t hot' dancer then Soulie75...
Guest gordon russell Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Talc is for putting on babies bums

Guest soulie75 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) guess you're a 'sh%t hot' dancer then Soulie75... yes ,when i went to wigan i danced at the front near the stage ,no one used talc , the shufflers used it to dance, at the back on the dance floor Edited February 22, 2013 by soulie75
barney Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 yes ,when i went to wigan i danced at the front near the stage ,no one used talc , you did at the back of the room did wot at the back graham
Guest Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Talc on a tiled dance floor just plain dangerous as well as being un-necessary, get yourself a decent pair of leather soled shoes too. Atb Mc
Back Street Blue Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 You don't "need" talk to dance if the floor's good and I agree I don't remember seeing it on the floor at WC. I'm a shuffler (that's feet not fingers) and I danced front, back middle and sides of the floor downstairs anywhere there was enough space really. But when the floor's sticky, a little talc makes it easier to dance the way I do. Went to the Ritz dayer last September and the floor was almost impossible to dance on in places, uneven boards and proper sticky 'cos of all the ale that got spilled on it at a previous live band event. I would have struggled even more without the talc. Real shame as I was expecting that fantastic raised floor of old which was one of the best I'd ever had the pleasure to bounce on but the building's interior has been totally rearranged and that old floor has sadly gone for good. Good luck to all you top dancer's who don't need it, got to go now 'cos I'm off out dancin' so...........who's got the talc?
dedji1955 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Some soulies appear to be making a statement these days by flooding the floor with talc having a quick shuffle and then leave never to return On several recent outings I have seen good dance floors ruined by too much talc 2
Rushden Vic Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Talc is for putting on babies bums Ive just had my weekly bath and ive put talc all over meself including my bum so your wrong Terry , its not just for babies bums its for my bum as well. Crikey that must mean I,m not A soulie but nothing but a arsoulie . me mums also complaining about the mess I,m leaving on the bathroom floor Edited February 22, 2013 by midnight brew 1
Popular Post Casper Posted February 23, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) IF a floor is very sticky a very small amount under your own feet is enough .. take two pair of shoes to the venue , slippy ones and sticky ones .. easy ! Talc is the now used as some sort of statement at times .. like an entrance statment by throwing it all over even before trying the floor .. Health issues too as the cloud affects asthma sufferers ..and to some degree everyone, not good stuff to be breathing in .. .. let alone the broken bones issue.. Only good thing is at least you can see talc and avoid it .. unlike the wax chips coming into use.. overall , used with sense , it's ok ..just that bit under your feet .. and most are happy , remember your talcsoaked heaven is another dancers hell ! Patto Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Nothing worse than being sat near a person who walks onto the floor and empties half a tub of talc then shuffles on it for one dance before sitting back down for an hour. Having said that there was something magical about the old venue nighters when the floor was sprinkled with talc the smell mingling with the sweat, and your shoes and trousers coated in the stuff by morning. But Casper is right no need for it realy if you carry around two pairs of shoes.I have one leather soled and one clarks type soft cushion sole and a simple swap over makes it ok on most floors Edited February 23, 2013 by Patto 2
Patto Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Just read a post that says no talc was used at the casino is this true.I only went twice during its death throws so cant coment, but remember lots of talc use in the 80s/90s,think the most i got covered in it was at Keele Edited February 23, 2013 by Patto
Ritchieandrew Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Forget Talc ..............just play "Dance to the music".......................Quote: I'm gonna add a little guitar to make it easy to move your feet.!! 1
Casper Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 What are ' wax chips' Pete? some sort of crystal that makes the floor like an ice rink .. not had any in my hand but only small grains that squash and create a coating on the floor .. .. it cannot be seen .. .. so is quite dangerous .. pete
Paddy Ferry Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 People put talc down at our club last year I was going to say sprinkled but it looked more like a snowdrift, the problem was when it's compacted into the carpet the club had to hire special cleaning equipment to remove it and not happy with me so this year no talc. I have come across the crystals and they are very effective but can make the floor lethal only a tiny amount is required .

It's not something that I've used (intentionally)but I agree with Soul Elite if others want to use it sensibly then why not. Dancing has become a wee bit too precious these days - people complaining they can't dance because there's too much talc , too little talc , a drop of beer on the floor - what happened to just going out and enjoying the music without planning it like a military operation. Cheers Manus Edited February 23, 2013 by manus 2
Zed1 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I thought the talc was on the floor to soak up all the old peoples little 'accidents'?.... 2

I don't mind a bit of talc but beer can send you flying when you are moving fast. i went down on my knee a few months back after slipping on some spilt beer. People who stand on the dancefloor drinking are f***ing idiots. If you think it's not a problem try it the next time you go out. Edited February 23, 2013 by Matt Male

There's a difference between a pool of beer/water on the floor and a drop being spilt and everyone going into hysterics over it or someone committing the cardinal sin of walking across the dancefloor with a pint - it's all getting a bit ridiculous in my opinion. I've slipped on talc before but it doesn't make me feel the people that use it are idiots (well maybe the odd one or two). I sometimes think the fun element is being sucked out of the scene - my point was that people could relax a bit more and maybe accept other ways of doing things and maybe go out with the intention of enjoying themselves instead of carrying a set of rules around in their heads. One of the best times I've had lately was at the Vintage Soul afternoon do in Brighton underneath the station - the dancefloor is cobblestones and wet with condensation and the place is freezing but what a laugh and people just get up and dance regardless. Cheers Manus Well fair enough. I agree a few spots of beer are nothing to worry about, but sometimes a spillage is hard to spot in the dark. I just don't need a broken leg or a smashed knee-cap. I certainly try to avoid walking across a dancefloor if i'm carrying a couple of pints, it's just good manners for the dancers more than anything else. To be honest the only time I cross the dancefloor is if I'm dancing, otherwise I go around the outside. Cobblestone floor wet with condensation? Rather you than me mate.
Guest ang b Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I can't dance on talc so I find myself having to dance on the carpet which is better but bloody hard work, I can remember someone having a bar of wax for there shoes I'm not sure if you can get it from these shops that cater for ballet, tap dancing & all those kinds of things shop maybe

Stillsoulin Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 like Dale, i promote a local soul night, have done for the last 9 years at the same venue, new manager in, quiet word at the end of our last night, sorry but no more talc allowed, not that too much is used to be honest, one of his bar staff nearly went a pearler whilst clearing glasses and he wasnt impressed.so we are now a talc free zone. Rob h.
Guest soul elite Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 yes ,when i went to wigan i danced at the front near the stage ,no one used talc , the shufflers used it to dance, at the back on the dance floor Yeah well we all could 'back in the day'. You saying you were in with the 'in crowd' dancing at the front of the stage...? And while we're at it Wigan was NOT the be all and end all of Northern soul!! haha

Andreas B Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 At Backstreet Northern Soul Club here in Copenhagen, they've devised a pretty clever plan for the use of talc. Keep in mind, I've never made it over to any do's in the UK so I can't say for sure its very original, but it works really well and keeps the floor from being over-saturated with it. Up in the front of the room in the corner near the decks, they just dump out a large amount in one spot. That way, if you'd like some, you can just go over and dip your shoes in without accidentally spilling out too much. People track it across the floor over the night which means its in general a little bit more slick, but its not like accidentally stepping into a part of the floor absolutely flooded with it. Works like a charm and means everyone gets the right amount they want to use. 1
