Hi , I am new to the forum and wondered if you could help.We are in the process of returning to our collection of Northern soul records which have been stashed away for some time..and we have decided to sell some. I have searched the internet for some ideas...not a great deal of luck because we lack the knowledge...demos...pressings ...its all a bit confusing!

I want to put this record on eBay Billy Prophet 'What can I do? B side Sad Sam..what is it? and what price should i hope for ? Or should i keep hold of it ? Any advice would be appreciated. I have attatched some pics.

If it's styrene with a stuck on label, it's likely to be a pressing / reissue. See if there's anything etched in the run out. If it's got a triangle then a number 100271 it's a reissue. You can usually date records by that delta number, numbers beginning with 90 and 100 are always made in the 70's

Firstly you need to be sure of which copy you have, there is a very convincing counterfeit of this record, both on vinyl and styrene, styrene copy has delta # 100271 in run out groove, vinyl counterfeit has no matrix number in run out groove.

Sorry see above reply, great minds Pete

Thanks to you both ...Just Looked at the record again...there is a triangle and a the number 100271 in the black part scratched in.

So would i list it as a reissue 1970 ?...to be honest it there isn't a mark or a scratch on it ...is that suspicious?

It's actually a reissue from 1976. Just list it as 2nd issue or reissue, year doesn't matter.

Thanks for your reply. The more i have tried to research and the more i have read on forums (which i am not use to yet)..the more it scares me from putting them up for sale.I would not want to mislead and sell someone the wrong thing...so i think i will stick to very basics ....which probably won't help to sell my records...but at least i can rest easy. This might sound a bit of a stupid question ...but in general do people mind answering queries about records ?

Buy John Manships price guide (5th edition) theres all the info you need on which are bootlegs and which are originals including colour pics.

Dont buy the 6th edition though - they're not in it

Back to the Billy Prophet, are there originals with the black/white stripes as shown above?

I though the orig had black stripes over the orange background
