Roburt Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Back in the 60's, lots of the top soul acts got to appear on Ready Steady Go ........ ... these included James Brown, Dee Dee Sharp, Bobby Hebb, Solomon Burke, Barbara Lewis, The Drifters, Doris Troy, Lou Johnson, Major Lance, Fontella Bass, Wilson Pickett, Roy C, Irma Thomas, Edwin Starr, Don Covay, the Adlibs, Nina Simone, Rufus Thomas, the Vibrations, Otis Redding and many of the Motown acts. I know most of the old shows were junked by Rediffusion, Dave Clarke saving a few for posterity. What clips that did remain from the show eventually escaped on video (3 in total if my memory is working). Have these been put out since on DVD ?? BTW, I used to watch the show every Friday evening when it was on & have faint recollections of Inez & Charlie Foxx appearing on one show. Can anyone here actually confirm that they were on as my memory may just be defective (it was a long time ago). I watched this clip that's up on youtube but didn't manage to spot Pete Stringfellow on it (he used to marshall all the dancers on the show & most of the time decided who from the audience would get to be in front of the cameras) ...... Guest MBarrett Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Have these been put out since on DVD ?? Rob Those compilations have been put on to DVD and you can get them from the American website VideoBeat. Unfortunately a bit pricey! Hopefully this link will work and you will see that there are 5 various RSG DVD's available. https://www.thevideob...ready steady go MB Edited February 19, 2013 by MBarrett
Roburt Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Thanks for the info. As they are only available from a US site, I guess they are made / marketed there. Doesn't seem right that a UK company hasn't had the idea of making copies of this iconic British TV show available here on DVD.
Guest Garry Huxley Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I used to own a video of Dusty Springfield hosting loads of motown acts on a RSG special, Unfortunatly some thieving bastard nicked when i was in the army about mid 80's It was a legit release in uk I remember paying a fiver in HMV around 81
Chalky Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I have the Motown special on video in th garage. I think he only DVDs kicking about are boots. Show list here https://www.tv.com/shows/ready-steady-go/episodes/
Haydn Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Dave Clark of Dave Clark Five fame owns the copyright on most/what is left, of RSG output, as far as I am aware....he was selective on what was released. This showed on the few that were released as it was found that the same clips of DC5 and the crowd were littered throughout. Anybody confirm if these are the recordings?
Chalky Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I think Dave Clark owns the rights to everything to do with RSG, what exists and what doesn't.

I've got them Hadyn, and your right he put his band video clips in them, from what I was told he was miffed at never appearing on the show and this is the reason he bought what was left and still has never before seen episodes of the show, was also told he has no intention of releasing them in the near future. It is rumored he has all the shows intact but unless someone offers him a kings ransom we may never get to see them. I bought the DVD's from the States and in reality there's not much on them I've never seen. Lenny
Haydn Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Aye the miffed reason lol I dont think he got them all cos as was said....Rediffusion needed space and re-used or got rif of some of the tapes, would love to think that all were there but it was similar scenario to TOTP tapes.
Chalky Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Plenty of gossip about RSG and Dave Clark here https://missingepisodes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=totp&action=print&thread=2646 1
Bigsoulman Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Plenty of gossip about RSG and Dave Clark here https://missingepisod...int&thread=2646 Some interesting reading there Chalky but to my knowledge (and I don't think I ever missed a show) that the DC5 were never on it except perhaps recorded in the States for Hullabaloo or Shindig as they were massive over there. My informant was a close friend of Mike Smith the lead singer of the band and he always stated that DC had intact episodes, we will never know I suppose until he decides to get them out on DVD, would be a fortune maker for him i would expect.
Haydn Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 The screaming crowd videos weren't part of RSG studio, or the clips of DC5, blatantly obvious. I was sick of seeing the guy wi the glasses in crowd screaming like a burd lol 1
Chalky Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 The first link I think has all the shows thy were aired and who appeared. It is said the Dave Clark Five performances were from Shindig and Ed Sullivan and spliced into RSG footage.
