Roburt Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) After his 1st book (Carolina Beach Music: the Classic Years) on the subject sold well, Rick Simmons has penned a 2nd effort ......... Carolina Beach Music from the '60s to the '80s: The New Wave His new effort is already available from Amazon & similar outlets ......... https://www.amazon.co...61256436&sr=1-1 Rick's 1st book attempted to explain 'Beach Music' by reviewing a whole list of tracks that have enjoyed enduring popularity on the Beach Music Scene. Run down his list & its easy to see the links between NS & Beach ....... .. BTW, you can still buy his 1st book, Amazon have it listed. Edited February 19, 2013 by Roburt 1
Roburt Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 A Beach classic from back in the 60's ....... white group, the Swingin' Medallions ...... The same group more recently .... performing their take on "But It's Alright" ...
Roburt Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) BTW, the new book follows a similar format to his 1st one. He reviews lots of tracks that became popular on the 'Beach music scene' after the classic years. These include efforts by the likes of Barbara Acklin, the Esquires, THE FUTURES, HOT CHOCOLATE, the Poets, Edwin Starr, TOWER of POWER, Robert Knight, WILD CHERRY, ROBERT WINTERS & FALL, Shades of Blue, the Spinners, etc. Edited February 19, 2013 by Roburt

Popular Post Windlesoul Posted February 19, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Rick Simmons' first book was one of a number of resources for initially informing my forthcoming piece. Was useful for the historical account of a number of artists of interest to the soul scene this side of the Atlantic and initial detective work for tracking my lot down. Really looking forward to reading his new one too. However, at risk of a wee bit of free advertising, if you are after something to really connect the rare end of the soul scene to beach and related music.....ahem.....coming your way in the next month or so..... Covers the Tempests, Bob Meyer and the Rivieras, Anthony and the Aqualads, Berkshire Seven, Athens Rogues, The Generation, Bob Collins and Fabulous Five, Greater Experience, Appreciations, Embers, Ron Moody & Centaurs, Delacardos, Novas Nine, Lost Soul, Soulmasters, Spontanes, Maurice Williams and Zodiacs and others. Lots of contributions from artists, major players - and also from folk on here! Inn't Soul Source brilliant! Edited February 19, 2013 by Windlesoul 4

Guest Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Sales pitch over! No, it deserves to continue...or have its own thread! I also received a preview copy of Mark's forth-coming book (would publically like to thank you, sir), and have been dipping into it since the weekend. Great info, label scans, memorabilia and artist pics, as well as the words of wisdom. Recommended. Will also be checking out Rick's new book...thanks for the heads-up, Roburt.
Greety Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 When you have copies available why don't you post up again on here with payment details etc? I'll certainly have one.
Windlesoul Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Will be promoting it properly soon, this was just an opportunity for an informal push!
Guest Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Would be interesting to see a Soul Source Members top ten Carolinas favourites
