Henry Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 (edited) Not sure if this is the right place for this but I wanted those that knew Jerry to know of his sad passing (see Pittsburgh Tribune cutting below). Jerry and his widow Lynn, became very good friends of mine over the years. As you can guess, we came into contact with each other through me buying soul records. My buying trips to the north east of the USA wouldn't have been complete without a visit to see them; which became more social than business over the years as we became very good friends. Jerry had been in ill health for a few years. Suffering from MS and all its cruel complications. He and Lynn were such great people to know and this screwy world is a much poorer place for Jerrys passing. Gone but never to be forgotten. R.I.P. Jerry! Gerald B. Braverman, 65, of White Oak, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, in his home. Born March 9, 1947, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Edna (Balsamico) Braverman and the late Bernard Braverman; and the husband of Patti "Lynn" (Thorne) Braverman. Jerry was a Gateway High School, Class of 1965, graduate and served his country as a Navy Vietnam veteran in Submarine Squadron Six. He enjoyed a very eclectic life. In earlier years, Jerry trained at Jim Carlisle's House of Champions Karate School in Wilkinsburg. In addition to being an expert marksman, he was a trainer and lead salesman at Braverman Arms Co. in Wilkinsburg, the company founded by his father. He was a former police officer in Forest Hills and former owner of Swissvale Video. Jerry was best known as a radio disc jockey on WEDO, WIXZ and as host of the "Home of the Brave" show on WLSW. In addition to being an avid record collector and disc jockey at local clubs, he was the proprietor of Braverman Enterprises, a company obtaining vintage vinyl records. In addition to his mother and wife, Jerry is survived by children, Lisa (Rick) Adams, of Bolivar, and Robbyn Braverman, of New Florence; eight grandchildren; sister, Beverly (Allan Ferens) Braverman, of Acme; niece and two nephews; brother-in-law, Tom Thorne, of McKeesport; aunts, uncles and cousins; best friends, Curt and Rita Alberts, of Washington; and all of his caregivers, with a special thank you to Sissy Richel. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at WILLIG FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Military honors and entombment will follow at McKeesport and Versailles Mausoleum. Memorial contributions are suggested to National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163; White Oak Animal Safe Haven, 2295 Lincoln Way,White Oak, PA 15131; or Mountain Watershed Association, P.O. Box 408, Melcroft, PA 15462. www.soul45collector.com Edited February 19, 2013 by Henry
