Gold Band Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I truly love the dance flow of this track & I think it will be massive this year, But it's just the words that I seem to dis-engage with. I'm not anti Christian then again I'm not celibate either (had the calling) but to me a true Romantic at heart (Fingers touching my tonsils) is this track too religious or is just me? I Say again I could dance all night to the hypnotic rhythm of this track.
Greg Belson Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 This is a great track for sure, and is without doubt gonna pick up steam in clubland.....I can never understand though, why the mention of gospel can put people off from truly engaging with some of the best soul music created. You don't need to buy into the message to enjoy the performance.......the choice is yours. I'm not religious in the slightest, but love collecting these fascinating examples of soul at it's rawest and arguably most compelling. 1
Roburt Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Loads of soul / NS songs have nonsense lyrics, I sold "Slow Fizz" back around 1971 coz I couldn't stand the words (they drove me mad as by then silly dance lyrics seemed so old hat).Songs such as Hey Diddle Diddle, Ooh Sugar Wooga, La De Da I Love You, Oogum Boogum Song & Boogie Oogie Oogie for instance have rubbish titles (though I do really love Um, Um, Um, Um, Um).I'm not religious but I can easily ignore lyrics about God if everything else about a track is magnificent. Fossev Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 im not religious at all but the fact that someones beliefs are passionately sung in a song does not mean i enjoy it less. makes it a touch better if anything. dont have to be a god fearing / loving to enjoy La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, for example. this tune just went for $350 ish on ebay so kudos if you got one for next to nothing.
Guest Leona M Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I got this record for a song last year and have played it in Barcelona last December, New Years Eve at Va Va Voom, Switzerland and Masters Of Soul amongst others ...in fact I think I might have been one of the very first to spin it out in the UK and everywhere I've played it it has sounded unbelievable ... a real dance floor filler! Always gets people up to the decks too asking what it is. I know plenty of the big Dj's are snapping up copies of this now and I think it's gonna be Mahoosive! Big up to Greg Belson ...it's on his podcast I first heard it The religious lyrics don't bother me at all ... if we can enjoy songs about wife beating and cheating then a bit of 'taking it to church' should be ok eh?
Guest uroffal Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Brilliant record IMHO and one of many fantastic gospel tunes that are around if you look for 'em Edited April 16, 2013 by uroffal
Wrongcrowd Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Great tune......It's been getting some turntable action at Lifeline. HUGE.....is what it will be.
