In our house in the late 60's the Temptations Gettin ready album took up residence, fending off me Mums Cliff Richard and my sisters Herman Hermits! What 60's or 70's album monopolized your player? Later on the Impressions - "Young Mods" album would be the backdrop to many a night in helping a "friend" with her homework! Dave Banks

A Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet LP on Hallmark (?) Bobby and Betty go to the moon - an LP with a narrated story on one side and some strangely hypnotic dance music on the other.

Then: Capital Soul Casino The Grapevine LPs - This Is Northern Soul etc... all had a good run. But one I always played was a boot LP I bought from Wigan on the BEE label I think it was, yellow. No idea what happened to it but it was a brilliant selection of tunes. No idea who made it either. This would be around 1980.

Davebanks Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 Some of you mentioning reggae stuff reminds me of when those albums like tighten up and prince buster would be played alongside our soul stuff. Mind you some of it we had to hide from my Gran. Bang Bang Lulu and Big 5 were considered quite risque then. It is also forgotten now but in the late 60's early 70's most of us were just discovering what a great collection of tracks the Drifters had laid down over the years. the album I'll take where the music is playing was still new and fresh then. Still gets an airing on CD in our car. Dave Banks

I listened to the whole album in full multiple times when it came out round at my mate, Al Horseford's flat in Huddersfield, along with James Brown Live At The Apollo Vol 2. There is no doubt that those two albums shaped my experience and musical taste at a key point in my life. I remember saying to Al at the time, "can it seriously get any better" and he said "No, not really". And it hasn't. Within their respective areas, these two albums still top it for me. Ian D 1
