Off the scene -EWF bingley hall. Aweome energy and vibe from "The Fire".. jacksons preston guildhall 78, Tavares Newcastle city hall 78 utter nostalgia, commodores Glas apollo 79 big lionel getting down, stevie 84, benson. On the scene - contours prestatyn and plenty others but the standout for me was the originals Manchester ritz. Special and wonderful.  For me time stood still for a moment.

I saw The Falcons at one of The Northampton weekenders they were brilliant

I was there too, great gig. The backing singers were filming the crowd!

Other stand out performances, Edwin Starr, gave  nothing less than 100%, Joe Bataan and Anne Sexton.

Off the scene, Slade were always brilliant, and, unexpectedly good......America (horse with no name) and the Inspiral Carpets.

Edwin at Wigan in 74 - where he did his set and then came back and did it again when he found out about a sound fault

Temptations in 75  - with Richard Street and Dennis Edwards in the line up

Phil Perry at Prestatyn, Masqueraders as well

but the top one was The Mighty Mighty Dells at Trentham - nothing comes remotely close to this stunner

Ray Pollard and also Richard Berry both gigs at the 100 club in the early 90's thumbsup.gif

You are right Alan, I was at the Ray Pollard one and it was truly fantastic! Another one for me was at Great Yarmouth with Chuck Jackson. He was fab. I remember Val and I being right at the front and when he threw his cummerbund (?) into the audience, after a tussle, I got it, and still have it. A friend of mine borrowed it for an 'Easter ball' she was doing, and I remember she washed it...oh no!

I have photos somewhere of that night. I must hunt them out soon.

I must admit, missing the Originals is a real regret.

I have seen hundreds of singers from differing genres. I have also filmed stage shows and been sat on the stage closest to singers possible when performing......and there is only 1 singer whom I saw consistently able to equal his recordings and match any newcomer with vocals....and still would today.......I reckon. EDWIN STARR...RIP...X

End of!x

Al Green at Old Hill Plaza

Curtis Mayfield - same venue

Major Lance at the Torch

Jackie Wilson at Stafford

Tina Turner at Wolverhampton Civic

All fantastic nights

Just noticed this - I was at four of those nights - mind you there were loads of great acts on at the Plaza and at Stafford as well in the main ballroom and Wolvo Civic has always been famous for its acoustics - it was chosen to host loads of BBC In Concert series for this reason.

Specials at Barrow Civic Hall 1979. I was 12 and told fibs to go to what was my first concert. Unbelievable! Weller at the Zap in Brighton, just prior to his first solo album release, was a special night too.

Seen most of the soul artists already mentioned on the thread and, good though most definitely were, and some were outstanding, none gripped me in quite the same way as those two did on those particular nights. Happy days!

Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames at the Scene Club 63-64 ,absolutl ey blew you away ,the hammond organ was battered and bruised then ,it must be even worse by now .

and the 3 degrees at Hammersmith Palase , another group that blew your sox off ,no wonder Prince Charles always booked them for his functions .
