Smudger Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 There are loads of great reggae versions of soul classics the original soul version does lend it self towards a reggae theme anyway 1
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Here's one thats always been a fave of mine ........... bought as a new release a FEW years back ...... We're just like Williams & Watson .... two (bros) for the price of one 1
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Can't say that this is my fave version of "Dark End of the Street" ......... the backing is just TOO amateurish .... There has to be a better reggae version ...... no doubt Pete S will point me in the right direction.
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Here's a better effort from Pat Kelly .... a Curtis Mayfield (Impressions) song .....

I can't, I'm too stunned at you saying that the backing track is amateurish LOL this backing track has been used on 7 or 8 classics including the oe below, which isn't a soul record but sounds like it should be - totally fantastic track by the same artist 1 2
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 An earlier version of the above that again features the Techniques .......
Pete S Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Here's a better effort from Pat Kelly .... a Curtis Mayfield (Impressions) song ..... Ooh not for me thanks - that is an 80's remake of a 1967 stunner..
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) I'm too stunned at you saying that the backing track is amateurish LOL this backing track has been used on 7 or 8 classics Afraid its way too 'tinny' for me Pete. Beat you to the 67 version of "Queen Majesty" !! Edited February 9, 2013 by Roburt

Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 No vocals on this .... so the 'backing track' has to 'stand on its own feet' ....

Pete S Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) ALTON ELLIS - AIN'T THAT LOVING YOU - TREASURE ISLE Edited February 9, 2013 by Pete S
Roburt Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) ........... NOT SOUL AT ALL .......... but a massive mid 60's mod club sound that I had to slip in .......... .... its 15th April 1967 again, two in the morning & we're all at the Mojo niter in North Sheffield waiting for Geno to come on stage when Stringfellow spins this ..... Pete S Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 that pat kelley-how long will it take is fantastic and beautiful, how much for one of them pete ? jason It's pretty easy to pick up mate, £20 for a mint one but any less, £8 to £15 really. This UK version is way better than the Jamaican mix, the Jamaican one doesn't have the strings which make the UK one so beautiful. Next one I get I'll give you it. In fact I might have one on my jukebox (though I think it's Jamaican - doh!) 1

Cunnie Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Play this out occasionally. Far better version of our Kenny IMO. Also drop the needle on this. Again far better than the original by the Temptations again IMO.

In fact I might have one on my jukebox (though I think it's Jamaican - doh!) Agreed Pete but have seen it in boxes at Soul nights for anything up to £50 on UK Gas. Got a rather strange Australian copy (with added strings & things) on W&G records & rather nice it looks too.
