Natalie89 Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 hello im after a copy of little john - just wait and see thanks
Quinvy Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 got to be one of the rarest 45's on the planet. good luck. 1
Mark R Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Yes, I must admit I was expecting to open this and find you were after "Heartbreaking Time"!! I have had an original copy of this in my hands though. This is one of those where you might simply HAVE to settle for the MAFMON re-issue/boot if you insist on having a piece of vinyl. I might be able to help with that if it's an offer I couldn't refuse......I'm not very good at selling records!!! Cheers, Mark R 2
Natalie89 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Thanks, yeah it looks like its gonna be a reboot but I'm not bothered if it is, as long as I've got it, its a fantastic record Nat x

Natalie89 Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 For your amusement: Part of a letter I received from the states in 1987. Derek OMG wish that was now, it looks like I'm gonna have to have other pressed myself to be honest. That's the only way I'm gonna get it Nat x
Soulman Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Originally bought mine from John Anderson at the Bowl.... £50. Thought it was expensive at the time. Eventually sold it to Carl Fortnum for something like £300 I think. How stupid was I Steve 1

Soulman Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 its worth alot more than £300 now mate, but im not bothered if its a repress to be honest aslong as its on vinyl xx ..... and don't I know it. There's a little story to go with this. I used to buy off John at Soul Bowl on a weekly basis. Luckily I only lived about 12 miles away and was always popping across to see him, even helping him compile soul packs on occasions. Luckily, I sometimes got a sneaky peek at what was on the list but I had to wait for it to drop through the letter box like eveyone else. On this occasion, the list arrived as usual but I had to go out to a meeting which meant leaving the house at 8am, half an hour before John would switch the phone on in his office (which was actually his kitchen). This was way before the days of mobile phones so I had two options. Start my journey and try to find a phone box at 8:30am or get someone to call John and secure the record. John had my card details and knew that I would collect at some point... so just before I had to leave for my meeting, I phone Andy Rix and asked him to reserve Little John "Just Wait And See" on Go-Gate for me. He rang at 8:30, I got the record and I'm sure he has been pi**ed off with me ever since. Absolute minter of a copy, unplayed and for £50. Good on ya Andy, those were the days. Steve Handbury 1

That might well have gone when JT had to sell up and he might have acquired an acetate instead. 1

Pumpkinseed Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Playing the " Go Gate " copy and 80 's bootleg copy side by side there's slight difference on sound quality . The bootleg is slightly muffled and not as clear as the original press which is a very clear recording and sounds GREAT . 1

I think you would expect that, wouldn't you? unless the boot came from the tapes; but this is such an obscure and rare record, its only existence for most, including myself, is that dodgy old scan above, and the disc I mentioned Trouble getting. Great track, you never hear out... Edited February 9, 2013 by Mal.C.

Jasonofa Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks for the replies fellas, now who has a boot for me? 1
Mark R Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Clifford Binns (Donald Jenkins & The Delighters) on the flip of the boot too! Cheers, Mark R

Natalie89 Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 After Natalie is sorted, of course... i think we am gonna have a bit of trouble getting our hands on one of these to be honest nat x
Natalie89 Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 i have fount a MAFMON copy but under the name jimmy raye https://www.vinylcompare.com/buy-records/soul-pressings/rare-northern-soul/27665_just-wait-and-see-clifford-binns/
Chalky Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It was covered up as Jimmy Raye. Mafmon means mafia monster as in 6t's mafia. 2
Mark R Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Jimmie Raye "I'm The Only One" wasn't it Chalkster? Good point though, I'd sort of overlooked the fact that it was labelled as Jimmie Raye on the boot! Doesn't help if you're searching for it!! Cheers, Mark R 2
Emily73 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I've got it on Mafmon and I'm sure there's a quite a predominant clicking noise in the background but would need to dig it out of the Re-issue/Bootleg Dungeon and have a listen!
TOAD Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 boot up for sale pm with your price condition condition etc near mint !
Pete S Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Those boots are worth 10 - 15 quid. Terrible record.

Ted Massey Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Guy and Keb got the boots done quite a few of them as well and then found out virtually nobody knew the records except the Stafford crowd ( Guy told me this btw) 2
Mark R Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hehe, Pete.....terrible record.....you provide me with some great entertainment on here! Cheers, Mark R
Pete S Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hehe, Pete.....terrible record.....you provide me with some great entertainment on here! Cheers, Mark R Happy to help Mark. Poor singer, rubbish song, bad production, it's hardly Eddie Parker is it? And I am consistant - I said this 7 or 8 years ago when they were all raving over it. 2

Pete S Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 yeah, but it goes on the dance floor Pete, I'd think you would would accept that at least? mal Never heard it played mate. Just know it from the Mafmon single. The other side of which I really like.
Pomonkey Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Always laugh at the label - "If it's not on Gogate, it's not a hit" - possibly least accurate claim ever
Mark R Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Yeah, I've said on here before, the ultimate irony!! Cheers, Mark R
