Apart from the faint smell of dodgy burgers...

However.

What I would say is, if you had say £2000 spare, you could put together a really good collection of decent sounds, you could buy originals and reissues but there are records on there that a few years ago were 40 or 50 quid and are now 15/25 quid, and it's weird because a lot of pressings I sold for 10/15/20 are on there for a fiver...the overall quality is terrible but if you can read inbetween the cracks and you've got some dosh, I'm sure you could build up a collection. You wouldn't get invited to dj anywhere though

I put records up every couple of weeks , not rare but £20 - £50 book :wicked: price and start them at £4.99 . Usually sell a few at fook all and they are mainly in great nick.

Then I see some shite/boots etc. getting twice as much as the originals I'm selling. On the other hand I see certain records that I wouldn't dare sell in that condition and they get twice the price I do, WTF ! The other thing is when you search Northern Soul there is probably 2/3rds Boots/Re-Issues?? etc. Does my head in

Also there is a certain site selling rare soul ! with prices that must be plucked out of the air , do they actually sell ?

Swifty

I wonder if they even care if they do or not?

Pete , I'm sure you know who I mean  but how can you sell records say as Mint - but has a crack asnd the labels are worn at say £70 when a stone minter would be £40 for example . Pisses me off !

If you track the pricing on Popsike, you'll see that trend, I'll do a few next week when I stay over at work, it's quite "frightening" how these 50 quiders have plummeted.

Not been on here for a while - good to see that if you spend 2K on cheap records you wont get asked to DJ - same old fekkin dick swinging contest by old men spending there pension - no wonder there is never any new blood in the soul scene.

when i looked on ebay uk today it was like shopping at harrods...i put in price highest and couldnt see anything for steve jeffries buy it nows

I think it has become more common over the last few years for some sellers to list huge amounts of stock as buy-it nows. Steve Jefferies has around 4,000. Same with US eBay - of the 120,000 45s listed there as R&B/Soul almost a third are Craig Moerer BINs. As suggested above, best filter out the BINs if looking for bargains.

Yes but some of those BIN's aren't going to sell in a month of Sundays, they are simply entered to take them to the top of the listings in the hope that you visit their shop. They are the ones I tend to ignore because of their tactics.

Ebay with the charges from ebay and paypal and now the increase in postal rates from the US is virtually redundant now.

Damn right. Ebay is drowning in BINs. Right now german Ebay black music vinyl section (i.e. Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, etc) has 60.000+ items auction and BIN. Click auction only and you get less than 2.500 hits.

Well I hope I can still do that when I start claiming my pension........................

It seems to be 'scrape the barrel' time generally, judging by my daily scour of auction only, ending soonest(US site, incorporating UK). Compared to approx' 8 years ago it's become pretty tedious, but occasionally a gem turns up to make it worthwhile! Carl.

Just noticed after checking for Benji, most of these are from one eBay seller(Private 0138)

I reckon that if someone had time to do a count, that there would be far more boots on eBay than originals, and that's taking into account the re-presses too. It would be a better idea (but it will never happen in a million years) to have separate sections for Originals and boots/re-presses, that way those that wanted ovo, wouldn't have to trawl through the thousands of illegitimate items.

John, I meant you were talking about "buy it nows". But didn't end much higher any way.

Sorry Benj the way I wrote it. I filtered the buy it now away and just left the auction items, never the less as you say not bad at 18 quid. To me it's still worth a hunt on eBay.

Cheers John
