it was tad sarcastic, and I apologise for that, but hey, you always get em in the end; this happened to me recently on a magnetics on Bonnie, first heard it in 1987, took me 25 years to actually get that record, now I'm scared to play it...

good luck

You can't make statements like that, how do you know who's got it - I know a lady collector (there are some serious ones) in Cheshire who has it. You'd be surprised how many have these things but don't brag about it.

Aren't on soulsource ,don't dj etc ..very true Pete !

Probably better to say known copies amongst the dj's of the "rare soul " world

I stand corrected Pete....3 top chaps and a lady collector in Cheshire

I still wouldn't bet on that though, people only know about the play out copies, I wouldn't have known about the one I mentioned had she not told me, doesn't play out or brag about it..I remember when there were only a handful of 'known' copies of Court Davis, I bought one off a rockabilly collector, totally off the radar. People were saying well there's only half a dozen but they were wrong...as for the record...I've said this before, I think this is a 70's release because you can hear synth overdubs on it. Two nice sides, nothing special.

Pete.....i,m absolutely aghast that you can like tosh such as frankie & johnny......yet think this is "nothing special".....lead singer of the sweets singing a sublime tune.....not really for playing out imo.......just superb soul music

As I say, two pleasant sides, nothing special, the original Sweets track is ten times better anyway.

Well said Pete, I know a lady near Harrogate in Yorkshire, now theres a collection to feast your eyes on. Never goes anywhere just collects records, and no before anyone asks I won`t be giving out any details :D

It has a guitar sound taking the beat, it also sounds like a sample as it goes on near the end.

I don't if its possible to find any info on the band, The bass guitar sounds like a cardboard box and sounds like a famous soul singer player.

What they've done is taken the basic backing track from The Sweets "There's Something About My Baby" and overdubbed instruments onto it.

i never put the two as the same tune,i usually pick up on these things, and now that ive listened to both versions,i would have to go with the sweets,i think the vocal is far superior to sandy's.

But to be fair ,as far as i'm concerned ,it's the flip side that makes this particular 45 the jewell that it is .

"Your love is everything " is sublime !

So Pete and anyone else who want's to pick the bones out of the weaker side being better or worse than the sweets, is neither here nor there ,it's just a bonus track that makes the 45 a great double sider :hatsoff2:

I will play them at the same time when I get home and see, dosnt solve me problem with the bass player tho. Cheers.

You obviously still believe in Santa and the Virgin Mary if you are surprised, you would have thought being as old as you (according to Cliff Steele) you would know better :-)

You'd have to ask those who go to the venues that it gets played at ,or maybe the dj's who play it out ,which side is the preferred ?

But for me it's a no contest " YLIE " is the side .

If I wanted to own or play the flip i and others would buy the Sweets ,it's rare but not as rare and comes up for sale more often ..and for half the price :)

Yeah but it's a different song to the Sweets, why would you but The Sweets if you wanted Sandy Golden, that's like saying you want Moonlight Music And You but can't get it so you're buying What Shall I Do instead. :g:

Ok ,different lyrics ,but my point is ,if the sweets track is so much better than the alt take by Sandy Golden and this is the best of the two sides ,or the more popular side ,then it's a no brainer .

But it's not the reason why people love and want Sandy Golden ..it's the "B" side that is the jewell in the crown !

I'm not "dissing" the Sandy Golden Nev, I like it, both sides, I just don't think it's got whatever it is that takes a record to the highest level though - it's another of those where if it were a fiver...I think both sides start out superbly then just go off the boil

Floor Packer though Pete and I love it.

Jason it hasn't come up for sale in recent history. So any comparison of how much Richard played Jimmy W or whoever for a copy back in the 80s when Jocko was on his sebatical  is kind of meaningless.

Anyone remember me posting up the label scans of Sandy Golden's other 45? It had her manager's phone number on the label!

Yes Las Vegas or somewhere odd wasn't it?
