Mal C Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 it was tad sarcastic, and I apologise for that, but hey, you always get em in the end; this happened to me recently on a magnetics on Bonnie, first heard it in 1987, took me 25 years to actually get that record, now I'm scared to play it... good luck mal.C
shute Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 wasn't directed at anyone personely (can't spell) Mal, but thaks for the reply.......... good things come to those who wait

Dennisoul Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 how many, who..butch, kitch,searling..any more ? Marc...only the 3 top chaps that you've mentioned are lucky enough to own a copy 1
Marc Forrest Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Who got the copy on Ebay a few years ago? butch if I remember correct ? 1
Popular Post Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 5, 2013 Marc...only the 3 top chaps that you've mentioned are lucky enough to own a copy You can't make statements like that, how do you know who's got it - I know a lady collector (there are some serious ones) in Cheshire who has it. You'd be surprised how many have these things but don't brag about it. 4

Probably better to say known copies amongst the dj's of the "rare soul " world 2

Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I stand corrected Pete....3 top chaps and a lady collector in Cheshire I still wouldn't bet on that though, people only know about the play out copies, I wouldn't have known about the one I mentioned had she not told me, doesn't play out or brag about it..I remember when there were only a handful of 'known' copies of Court Davis, I bought one off a rockabilly collector, totally off the radar. People were saying well there's only half a dozen but they were wrong...as for the record...I've said this before, I think this is a 70's release because you can hear synth overdubs on it. Two nice sides, nothing special. 1
Philt Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Aye Pete, spot on and that 'Cheshire' copy has my name on it all being welll 3

Pete.....i,m absolutely aghast that you can like tosh such as frankie & johnny......yet think this is "nothing special".....lead singer of the sweets singing a sublime tune.....not really for playing out imo.......just superb soul music

Never goes anywhere just collects records, and no before anyone asks I won`t be giving out any details 1
Rupert Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 kev draper reckons he had on his lists in the 80's , said he had a few of them .
Prophonics 2029 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 It has a guitar sound taking the beat, it also sounds like a sample as it goes on near the end. I don't if its possible to find any info on the band, The bass guitar sounds like a cardboard box and sounds like a famous soul singer player.

What they've done is taken the basic backing track from The Sweets "There's Something About My Baby" and overdubbed instruments onto it. 1
Dobber Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 What they've done is taken the basic backing track from The Sweets "There's Something About My Baby" and overdubbed instruments onto it. i never put the two as the same tune,i usually pick up on these things, and now that ive listened to both versions,i would have to go with the sweets,i think the vocal is far superior to sandy's.

But to be fair ,as far as i'm concerned ,it's the flip side that makes this particular 45 the jewell that it is . "Your love is everything " is sublime ! So Pete and anyone else who want's to pick the bones out of the weaker side being better or worse than the sweets, is neither here nor there ,it's just a bonus track that makes the 45 a great double sider 1

I will play them at the same time when I get home and see, dosnt solve me problem with the bass player tho. Cheers.

Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 You obviously still believe in Santa and the Virgin Mary if you are surprised, you would have thought being as old as you (according to Cliff Steele) you would know better :-) You probably haven't even heard it...
jocko Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 You probably haven't even heard it... I was dancing to it while you and the other stuck in a time warp people were on their "break" 2

NEV Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Maybe not to you but it's my opinion so it is either here nor there. Weaker side my arse You'd have to ask those who go to the venues that it gets played at ,or maybe the dj's who play it out ,which side is the preferred ? But for me it's a no contest " YLIE " is the side . If I wanted to own or play the flip i and others would buy the Sweets ,it's rare but not as rare and comes up for sale more often ..and for half the price

NEV Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Yeah but it's a different song to the Sweets, why would you but The Sweets if you wanted Sandy Golden, that's like saying you want Moonlight Music And You but can't get it so you're buying What Shall I Do instead. Ok ,different lyrics ,but my point is ,if the sweets track is so much better than the alt take by Sandy Golden and this is the best of the two sides ,or the more popular side ,then it's a no brainer . But it's not the reason why people love and want Sandy Golden ..it's the "B" side that is the jewell in the crown !

I'm not "dissing" the Sandy Golden Nev, I like it, both sides, I just don't think it's got whatever it is that takes a record to the highest level though - it's another of those where if it were a fiver...I think both sides start out superbly then just go off the boil
Agentsmith Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 wonder how many people have naughty carvers of it?
Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 wonder how many people have naughty carvers of it? Well I did 3 double sided ones, and I ended up selling the one I kept so thats 3...

arnie j Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 just out of interest, how much has this record sold for in the past ? absolutely beautiful piece of soul music to my ears ! jason
Steve G Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Jason it hasn't come up for sale in recent history. So any comparison of how much Richard played Jimmy W or whoever for a copy back in the 80s when Jocko was on his sebatical is kind of meaningless. 1
Chalky Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Richard got it off Rob Marriott. It resided at my mates or ages prior to the deal. 2
Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Anyone remember me posting up the label scans of Sandy Golden's other 45? It had her manager's phone number on the label! 1
Chalky Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 My mate has her other masterpiece 45, have a scan from it at home somewhere.
Steve G Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Anyone remember me posting up the label scans of Sandy Golden's other 45? It had her manager's phone number on the label! Yes Las Vegas or somewhere odd wasn't it?
Pete S Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Yes Las Vegas or somewhere odd wasn't it? Steve I can't remember but I never deleted it so it must still be on here somewhere
Guest gordon russell Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 You obviously still believe in Santa and the Virgin Mary if you are surprised, you would have thought being as old as you (according to Cliff Steele) you would know better :-) speaking of clifford.......it was at his detroit academicals night in northampton.....where l first heard rob marriot play this masterpiece...cliff,ll tell ya when that was
