macca Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) I had thought of betty fikes, but it never has been a played out oldie so I'll have to get me thinkin' cap on again... Edited January 29, 2013 by macca
Diddy Morgan Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 was the term oldie first penned by the casino to promote the friday night once a month event , as a 16 year old who attended the saturday events weekly ,used to go along just to hear the plays from back in the day , mind sam cooke - heres another saturday night being spun had me wondering why i bothered ha ha
macca Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I just remember oldies being used to describe records from another era, recent or distant, as opposed to newies, whether 60s discoveries or out and out funk/disco releases around 75/76. There's a tape of Sam at St.Ives on Youtube, 1977, where he introduces Rosemary What Happened as a requested 'oldie'. I wouldn't attribute it to Wigan promoting itself...
Diddy Morgan Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 just dont remember other all nighters promoters using that terminology around 77/78
Pete S Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Pointless topic - I did it last week with a podcast of records that aren't played out (much) anymore and before you could blink 3 or 4 people had started with the "I heard that out last week" thing so expect a lot of that! I"m still amazed that someone played "The Flasher" out though.

Pete S Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Well it must be a pointless topic if you did a podcast, some times Pete you make me wonder Bazza I don't mean this topic is pointless, I mean it's pointless because people will tell you that everything listed is played somewhere, defeating the object of what you're trying to say. You misinterpreted what I was saying.
