Unsatisfactory Ebay Deal

and then say that I'm being a dick for asking a seller who sold a straight country record as soul to take it back

Ok, sorry for calling you a dick for asking seller to take back a record listed in the wrong category. You're a dick for believing that every record on Ebay is listed in the correct category.

Why are you intent on creating bad blood with me? like you had some deep down dislike of me and want to make sure it's reciprocated? That's fine I guess, now I know the undertone of all your posts. Don't know where this is coming from though, I didn't do anything to you, I must be rubbing you the wrong way. I'm obviously not talking about just the category selection but I'm sure you know that and you're just being a prick for no reason, and you'll find some other stupid way to take my posts out of context to call me a dick.

I totally disagree. The seller should have stated it was Swedish because if it's being sold on Ebay UK you would automatically expect it to be on UK Liberty.

cant agree on that Pete, as if your theory would be "common sense and order" there wouldnt be any jamaican reggae 45s on either ebay.com or ebay.co.uk or in general any foreign records on any ebay-url allowed.

In general its all down to "you win some, you loose some" IMO. As a buyer I believe it is YOUR job to make sure you are bidding on the right item. Not the sellers job. the seller didnt state it was swedish simply because he may have thought its simply not important esp as he included a picture.

I made myself so many bidding mistakes in the past... mostly on unknown stuff just lke Boba. But I always assumed it was my fault, I was taking on the risk. Again: You win some, you loose some. IMVHO.

If I would have won it I indeed too would have binned it, framed it (not really LOL) or put it straight into the sales box and move on... much too much time and effort to be invested in a 10 ukp record otherwise really. And most of all lifes too short to worry about such unimportant things (too long) really.

Just my opinion.

But Rod bought the record going by the photo of the record which looked like a UK pressed record but no detail of it could be seen except for the outline. I do think I would be able to tell the difference between a Jamaican record, which will always have a centre hole, and a UK one, which will either have a solid centre, a centre that can be pushed out, and one that has had the centre pushed out but the indents where the centre was can be seen.

just because it was funny (since no matter how the record was described or guaranteed I'm gonna be called a dick for asking to return it), I found a video I made of an unplayable record I got from a seller. it had a heat ripple on the edge that made it unplayable at a regular tracking force. They were really rude and I had to make a video to get them to take it back. here is the video:

https://www.divshare....ad/23536122-6ef

after i show the skipping, i pick up the needle and drop it on the record. listen to the record. This is the auction (somehow up from 2011 for some reason):

https://cgi.ebay.com/...3#ht_500wt_1182

here is a screenshot just in case this link dies. also note that the record is ungoogleable, the only hit you get is my positive feedback I left after getting refunded (I don't leave DSRs either by the way).

again pete, if that would be a logic widely accepted as a common rule for potential buyers to go by one could say, well the picture clearly shows a pic sleeve which means as a interested buyer you should know or get the knowledge before placing a bid that this record never was released in the uk with a picture sleeve.

That's true..

Personally i think that if you write something like "100% guarantee,,return for refund if not satisfied", you should take the record back. In this specific case the buyer is not satisfied with the lack of information.

As to the actual nature of this thread, well i don't know what to think. It's up to the seller and the buyer to sort it out as there is not a standard on such occasions. They both have their reasons. Also, what normally happens is that both buyer/seller get to read a few written phrases in a way which is normally not what was originally meant. If there's a chance, people should always talk, rather than exchanging emails/msgs

Just got back from dentist.

I did look at picture and it looked like UK. Solid centre, black, with Liberty logo. It's not a great picture. I did assume it was then UK cos on UK Ebay.

I take the point about checking beforehand but there was nothing in the ad that caused me to think it was anything other than British copy.

I had no idea it came out in Sweden. If I come across something else advertised on UK Ebay say on Stateside and picture is poor from now on I will be asking if that is UK Stateside.

Lots of to and fro here but no comment from yo!sco

I'd be curious to hear what you have to say besides you have 100% FB

and whatever this may mean

ive got a few very well collectors ready to follow it.

Maybe when you add the missing words it makes a new phrase or saying which gives a clue to the killers of JFK?

I dont think the seller is on here.

I assume he means he's got regular buyers he knows who are following the thread for him which I dont mind at all. I sent him a link to this thread as soon as I opened it.

Let me reiterate here. I dont think he or I are duping each other. Just have different ideas about customer service.

Didn't the picture sleeve alarm you? :g: Very few UK 45s were released with picture sleeves in the 60's.

Granted, and there's no reason you should mind, nor do I think you think you are being duped, but surely it only takes 5 mins to sign up , speak your piece and away.

A simple thing like "Swedish copy" would have saved all this. If you have to read between the lines on every one of his auctions I wouldn't bother. There are several valid points here that I for one would feel the need to address if it were me.

A simple statement such as

a) Rod, you're full of it. I have 100% FB and I stand by everything I've done & said. You'll get your money back now stop whining.

b) Maybe the picture wasn't the best and the fact that I didn't put Swedish in the description may have led to some confusion.

I'll try and be more specific in future.

c) Caveat Emptor, It's your job to ask any and all questions and do the research.

d) Something else.

would be something I would expect to see. Either by him or passed on by one of his collector / followers some of whom must be following this.

when they say it's acceptable to sell a country record as soul and when they say "100% satisfaction guarantee" means that a buyer can't return a record based on a misunderstanding of something that was not explicit in the description.

Surely music genres are more subjective and the guarantee is about - its the record advertised, its in the condition advertised, you've got the record advertised delivered in that condition to your door. That guy Marcofunk used to try and back records cos ' this isn't funky enough'. That's utter b-s complaining about the musical content, that's the buyers decision when they buy it that they like it musically, not the seller however they describe the record. Lets face it, if you're going to buy a record blind you take the chance and you've chosen to take the chance,

and for the record, before someone tells me i'm giving a BS example, I have gotten straight hair metal and hard rock 45s sold to me as soul several times. there is no blurry line there. i am not marcofunk. and none of the apologists for the original seller in the thread have said anything about the 100% satisfaction guarantee being voided.

Are we buying and selling used/old records here or is this the returns department at M&S. Now with them you have the right to buy an item, take it home, try it on, look in the mirror, decide it makes you look fat and take it back for a refund. I personally do not think buying and selling old vinyl falls into the same category from a customer service perspective. I sold an LP record on Ebay some time back with detailed pictures and a complete description. The buyer contacted me to say it was not the record that he thought it was and could he get a refund. My answer was no and I got Negative feedback. Whatever happened to Caveat Emptor.

Like Boba I have bought 1000's of unknown records blind in the USA over the years on the off chance they may be decent soul stuff. It is only with the advent of Ebay that sellers stateside have attached the words Northern Soul to their listings in the knowledge that they will get more views with that in the description. Any record by any artist from the early 50's to 90's and beyond may be described as soul or northern and as we all know a record does not have to be soul to be northern. Like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder.

I well remember many years ago (before google, ebay and internet) selling the contents of what I called my "duds box" to Johnny Manship for next to nothing, only to find out several years later that some of the records were worth hundreds of pounds on the Funk and Popcorn scenes. They were still crap to me though.
