George M Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) Please note - The entire list with full soundclips can be found in the Word document attached (this site only seems to allow ten soundclip links per post, so I've split it up). If you'd like to receive my list in the future before it goes online, please drop me an email. thanks, George CONCOURSE RECORDS Soul, Funk, Modern, Disco & Boogie Sales ~ January 2013 To order: email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com. Records will be reserved on a strict first come, first served basis. Grading: UK Record Collector system - M- / EX / VG+ / VG / VG- etc Postage for 45s: £3 UK recorded / £6 UK Special Delivery / £3.75 Europe / £4.50 rest of world / £9.50 Airsure or International Signed For (required for France, Italy & Brazil; strongly recommended for expensive items going to other locations outside the UK) Wants lists are welcome (price them and I’ll be much more inclined to try and help). I’ve included a few LPs and 12”s this time, which are listed below the singles. 45s (alphabetical by label) — Part 3 Helen White: Sweet Joey Baby / Love Is What You Make It (Justice) EX+ £250 A lesser-known winner from Louisiana here, briefly touted on the deep funk scene of yesteryear for the Love Is What You Make It side, but largely since forgotten again - two raw & funky 70s soul movers with a beautiful feel, and Ms. White gives it her all. I feel that Sweet Joey Baby in particular has the sound to shine on the current UK/European scene (in fact I think it has just recently been picked up on by Lars Bulnheim) — and it’s not at all easy to find. Listen: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/helenwhite_sweet.mp3 #2: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/helenwhite_loveis.mp3 Bobby Wayne: You’re Blowing My Mind (LaVal) EX £100 Cool & deadly funk from Philly. This has been unjustly underrated over the years, for no good reason (perhaps due to the inferior and commonly-sighted Chip Willis etc on the label). Listen: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/bobbywayne_youreblowing.mp3 Yohon: Fly With Me (Mary Carol) M- £20 Late 70s modern/boogie dancer from Chicago. Listen: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/yohon_fly.mp3 O.C. Tolbert: Message To Mankind / Goodness (New Day) EX+ £75 Dark and heavy downtempo track on the same TCB sub-label as Billy Garner’s two releases - Tolbert’s apocalyptic performance strides over a colossal beat. 10/10. Nice midtempo flip also. https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/octolbert_message.mp3 #2: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/octolbert_goodness.mp3 Serenade: Maybe This Time / Canteen (Out Front) solid VG+ £100 Mellow intro on this obscure MI release gives way to a modern/disco banger. If you want to, when playing it out it’s easy to skip the opening section and drop it on the beat. The flip is really quite nice too. Listen: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/serenade_maybe.mp3 #2: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/serenade_canteen.mp3 Ike & Tina Turner: Bold Soul Sister (Pathe Marconi / Blue Thumb) EX- disc / VG+ sleeve £20 Classic banger, on a French picture sleeve with them looking great on the front (light ringwear, looks fine though). Albert Washington: You’re Messing Up My Mind (Preston International) VG SOLD Unique Ohio funk with a big breakbeat. A spin for Butch, Ian Wright and Craig the Funky Plumber. Very hard to find clean, so this is probably one of the better copies around (and still only a handful have shown up). Listen: https://www.concourserecords.com/musicuploads/albertwashington_messing.mp3 Blue Velvet: Spring For You & Me (Que Ti) M- £40 Modern ballad from Detroit with nice group vocals.
