45cellar Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 (edited) About 18 years ago I bought a Kenwood Hi Fi system with surround sound speakers added soon after. When I play any Mirwood CD / Record, the surround sound really comes to life. All of the Mirwood label was recorded before surround sound was popularised or even thought of, so I wondered, did Mirwood use different studio equipment to everyone else or did they record at a different level in the studio. Has anyone else noticed this? Edited April 29, 2006 by 45cellar
Ady Croasdell Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Very interesting, I'll ask James Carmichael when I interview him for Mirwood Vol 2. We didn't notice anything unusual about the master tapes, so it could have been their studio technique. Ady
BrianB Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 Read this thread last night and played Ady's Mirwood CD on my Bose system. Got to say I didn't notice that it sounded any better on the Bose, apart from the normal cleanliness of the Kent re-production. However, it reminded of just how talented Mr Smith, Carmichael and Sherlie Matthews were in the halcyon days, particularly Oh My Darling, and The Same Old Thing, and not on the CD, Try a Little Harder. 45cellar Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 Read this thread last night and played Ady's Mirwood CD on my Bose system. Brian B I haven't bought the Kent CD yet, although it will be one of my next purchases. I was refering to the goldmine cd & records on Mirwood There is definately a difference on my system. I setup for any other CD switch on the surround sound and although I can hear the surround in operation, the surround sound speakers really come to life when I play Mirwood tracks. This became evident as, at first when I bought the speakers, I was a little disappointed with them. Then one day I put the Mirwood CD on and couldn't believe it.
BrianB Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Roger, I'll spin the Goldmine disc tonight and get back to you.
