TOAD Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 One of my latest favorite is sir scorcher and the black emeralds " record breaker" jan disc. The sort of boss/skinhead reggae 45 that had it came out in the UK at the time would be fetching big money ! But know its a new release from the usa and very very authentic it is even looks like a uk release. Available on i tunes and you can hear it via youtube worth a listen 1

Great stuff, and one of the few attempts at recreating the early reggae sounds that's ever worked.
TOAD Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Great you have put it up i can not via a mobile. You may be interested in the latest Hayley uk 45 which comes out on Monday innocent bystanders baby in yours produced by roger lomas.

dean jj Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I shall delay posting records and walking dogs as it is a tad inclement so right of the decks we have: DELROY WILSON 'LIVING IN THE FOOTSTEPS' PHILLIS DYLON 'LOVE IS ALL I HAD' DAVE McLAREN 'LOVE IS WHAT I BRING' SOUND DIMENSION 'HEAVY ROCK' THE SILVERTONES 'MIDNIGHT HOUR' KEN PARKER 'FOUND SOMEONE TO LOVE' THE HEPTONES 'SEA OF LOVE' AL CAMPBELL 'LOVE FROM A DISTANCE' TEDDY DAVIS 'TEARS FROM MY EYES' Oh it might be clearing up a bit. dean
Pete S Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 DAVE McLAREN 'LOVE IS WHAT I BRING' Been after this on ages since I found it came out on UK. I had it on a Jamaican blank but sold it ages ago. It is of course Dave "Collins" Barker.
dean jj Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 afternoon vicar....it is is of course a cover of the manhattans 'i'm the one that love forgot' or something, now my tawdry ex-employee and good friend in peckham has a blank, and I think the name on his maybe somebody else! Can't get him on the phone but will respond again on the very 'morrow. theortically. dean

Soul-slider Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 1. Skinhead Speaks His Mind - Hot Rod All Stars (Hot Rod) 2. Skinhead Revolt - Joe's All Stars (Joe) 3. Skinhead Train - Laurel Aitken (Nu-Beat) 4. Skinhead Moondust - Hot Rod All Stars (Torpedo) 5. Skinhead Train - The Charmers (Explosion) 6. Skinhead A Bash Them - Claudette (Grape) 7. Skinhead A Message To You - Desmond Riley (Downtown) 8. Skinheads Are Wrecking The Town - ? (Ackee blank) 9. Skinhead Invasion (Apollo 12) - Laurel Aitken (Nu Beat blank) 10.Skinhead Shuffle - The Mohawks (Pama) Not really my top ten, but I am a fan of late 60's/early 70's UK recorded Reggae especially the Cimarons stuff. I do have all the above on original 45's (bought them when nobody wanted them) and some are very tough to find. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for novelty/nostalgia value, lovely!

You're right about them not being everyone's cup of tea, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole! Unlike yourself, I find most UK produced reggae unlistenable with a few exceptions, mainly from Dandy and his artists on DownTown. Not that Desmond Riley record though, his Lead Them and Tear Them are great though, I think Desmond Riley is probably Dandy anyway. But you've got a great collection there, value wise.
Soul-slider Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I agree Pete, for me, the Desmond Riley 'Skinhead...' 45 is terrible, probably my least favourite out of that 10, Mike De Koningh loves it though! The Mohawks ain't much better either. I do like the Cimarons cookin' sound on some of the Hot Rod 45's, and as you say, Dandy's backing group The Rudies/Music Doctors are a great band. My real top 10 would consist of Prince Buster, Uniques, Bob Andy etc.

He also says there is goodly version by johnny Osborne but I haven't heard that. dean
