Popular Post Modernsoulsucks Posted January 15, 2013 Popular Post Posted January 15, 2013 I think it was much more prevalent throughout the 50's and R&B records. Here' Dominoes. Ostensibly about rockin' and rollin' its rather evident what the actual subject matter is And girls if your man cant do 60 no more why not tape a copy of Al Williams to the bed headboard just out of his reach. Assume a favourable position and relax as he makes repeated attempts to get his hands on the 45. For those who already have Al Williams a bacon butty works just as well. Im banned now aren't I ? ROD 5

At least the guy has manners n that goes along way, no? He could of just smashed her backdoor in n that would be just rude without asking or receiving an invite? Guest CARL D Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Isn't there an r'n'b track called 'Spunky Onions', or did i have a dodgy dream?? Also a song called 'Back Door Man' that the Doors covered. :-O
boba Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 he is not saying what you think he's saying. it's a reference to "back door man", which was slang at that point and originally a howling wolf song from the early 60s. he's begging for her to cheat on her current guy with him. i've listened to this song dozens of times and heard that line and never read it about asking his girl to let him have anal sex, which doesn't even make sense in the context of the song of the woman leaving. say a woman is leaving you for another man and you're begging for her to come back. is that one of the lines you would use? it doesn't make sense, but the howling wolf reference does.
boba Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 also, you may have just been joking, but there have been a bunch of threads on here about some pretty clear slang, e.g., "you got my nose wide open", so i just wanted to make sure it was clear to everyone and not something that got lost in translation going overseas.
boba Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 here is the howling wolf song. it never meant anal sex, even as a double entendre, when this song came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTAc62476f4

boba Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Awesome record, never heard that before. I have no idea on that ending though, i'm asking an older dude who collects 50s r&b if it meant something non-sexual.
boba Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Also, I think it might mean doing 69 years in prison but that doesn't make much sense either. EDIT: that has to be what it is, they just picked that because it rhymed.
Dean Rudland Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 There's no Youtube link, but surely the most gloriously carry on style innuendo you will hear on a record is Pussycat by the Latin Blues Band. One of the ad-libbing voices on this is the producer Bobby Marin, who has become a good friend of mine, and his voice still sounds identical to how it sounds on the record.
Md Records Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Surely the daddy of them all has to be Big Daddy Rogers - I'm A Big Man, even the title has a fair degree of innuendo. Des

Rick Cooper Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 And here's one for all you dentists out there............... Obviously this is before the soul era but is typical of the blues and R n B music that so outraged parents of white kids who started listening to black radio stations in the 50s. To get plays on the major soul radio stations labels had to clean up such smut but some still got through. Rick 1

AlanB Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 On the subject of shocking moments in records, what about Donna King. Did anyone ever come up with a non-swearing explanation for what she says at 0.56? Hard to believe it was issued with what it sounds like.
