Guest Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Not for the chinstrokers, but to keep the dancefloor full. Aint no mountain high enough. Your gonna love my baby. Little Darling. Lonely, Lonely girl am I. Helpless. Back Street. Something about you. Heaven must have sent you. I`m still loving you. You`re not an ordinary girl. Just look what you`ve done. Thats my baby. Suspicion. Same old song. Just a little misunderstanding. Ask the lonely. Over played or not they would do for me.
Dave Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Aint no mountain high enough. Your gonna love my baby. Davemac3 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 how about David Ruffin - Walk Away From Love, a bit more commercial perhaps, but I hadn't heard it for yonks when they played it at the Hemsby weekender. It filled the floor and sounded so good.
paultp Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Aint no mountain high enough. Your gonna love my baby. There's two there that are well overdue for a rest IMHO .... whoever started playing Aint No Mountain again has got a lot to answer for Can we replace them on the list wth Whole Lot of Shaking and Thrill A Moment please? Hurrah for "Whole Lot Of Shaking" !! I DJ'd with Jo Wallace at last years YKSoul all dayer in York, now I've been out of the way for a couple of years so when halfway through the set I looked at her next record I was shocked to see "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Are You Joking? (says I) Watch the floor (says Jo) Needless to say the floor filled in seconds as it started. I had no idea this was or would get played, Imagine my surprise ..... as they say I've got one finishing on ebay today anyway Cheers Paul
Guest enchantedrythm Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 playing aint no mountain high enough must be a joke, or must be considered a joke from any respectfull rare soul fan nice to hear some brave d.j at the last winsford play the Fantastic Four-Pin point it down-Soul, incidently other tunes by the same lad all had something that goes amiss these days, obscure, never or hardly played and top notch dancers to an all but empty dancefloor, i did six or severn consecutive moves, a rare thing outside the likes of butch/brown/hennegan/smith etc Well done that man! Who was it? anyway look out for the above tune, you'll be amazed you never heard it before/or just how good you never remembered it!

Jumpinjoan Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Fantastic Four-Pin point it down-Soul Have gave this a spin many a time ... absolute corker of a record Give the other side a spin too .... "Feel like i'm falling in love again" ... just great! ........ and all for around a tenner too .... FANTASTIC!
Jumpinjoan Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 As far as Motown tunes go .... they don't get much better than this .... How ANYONE can sit still to this is beyond me .... it's just great!
Bigsoulman Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 One i've been playing a few times recently, Temptations--Save My Love For A Rainy Day from the With A Lot O Soul album, brilliant! Lenny

So many great tracks mentioned on this thread, definitely the Velvelettes best tune - IMO of course!! The Temps version of Save My Love For A Rainy Day also cracking tune. I feel another Motown CD coming on!! Alan
Jumpinjoan Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 So many great tracks mentioned on this thread, definitely the Velvelettes best tune - IMO of course!! Isn't Motown just great ... think it's about time this one started getting the recognition it deserves ... A cracking piece of Detroit soul first .... Motown second ... Very similar to the Gambrells "You Better Move" ...... just as good ... maybe even better ... imo of course
Guest mrs norman maine Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Absolute all time favourite Motown dancer is Marv Johnson - I miss you baby (How I miss you) Stonking record rarely heard (cue hordes of people saying "I play that at Haresfinch social club on the first Tuesday of every month...) me too . I last heard it in Tony Smith's front room, which is much the same thing
Guest kelvinx Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Heard "aint no mountain..." on Sunday afternoon at Whitby weekender and thought it sounded great but assumed it was a one off. However having heard it a few times since it has worn a bit thin for me. Considering theres loads of underplayed motown it seems a bit dull to be hammering the chart stuff particularly at Northern venues...Thought that was what Motown nights were for.
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I also love Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself and Isley Brothers - This Old Heart of mine don't care if they so popular they are Northern classics and deserve a play all the time, just classics what can't be tired of play Other classics Stevie Wonder - Nothing's Too Good For My Baby Isley Brothers - Stop in the Name Of Love Diana Ross and the Supremes - Baby I Need Your Loving
Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 (edited) Nobody seems to have mentioned my two favourites, both album tracks :- Smokey Robinson & Miracles - My Baby Changes Like The Weather Edwin Starr - 24Hrs To Find My Baby Edited May 1, 2006 by B-side-B

Isley Bros - alt. take of 'My Love' Frances Nero - Fight Fire with Fire Liz Lands - Midnight Johnny LaBrenda Ben - Chaperone Singing Sammy Ward & Sherri Taylor - Lover Tommy Good - Baby, I miss you Martha Reeves - Taking my love David Ruffin - Rode past the place Barbara McNair - Steal Away Odyssey - Battered Ships/ Our Lives I'm sure I'll think of some more...... Found it on a Motown Karaoke cd mis-titled as "Just my imagination" by the Temptations.
