michael-j Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Just listened to dog war on island and that is much slower ... Broadway is much better in my view the Dog War version on Island is a mid 70s version: the Buster Dog War 45 is the ska version
Anais nin Carms Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 This is the one I wanted , and Pete has very kindly sent me his copy , much better than the above one in my view ... this could be the next 54 46 ... it really got under my skin... 2
Soul-slider Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 It was also released as 'Dog war' on UK Blue Beat and is the same as the first Island cut. However, all UK Blue Beats miss a milli-second of the opening piano riff!
Guest the dukester Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The copy in the collection I sold the guy on here was on British Island... NOC Biro on label vinyl scuffed but NAP
Pete S Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The copy in the collection I sold the guy on here was on British Island... NOC Biro on label vinyl scuffed but NAP Good £10 worth there then
Anais nin Carms Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 How much would it be worth if it didn't have the NOC biro on label ? as a matter of interest , I was offered one by PM ..... I could be showing some ignorance here but I thought what was asked for was way too high for a reggae record or am I just out of touch

I could be showing some ignorance here but I thought what was asked for was way too high for a reggae record or am I just out of touch I'd pay £35 - £40 for an excellent condition Island copy with a centre, and before anyone says that's way too low, I specialise in collecting this label - it's not a rare Island, it's hard-ish but the Blue Beat copy is harder. 2
Anais nin Carms Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 A big thanks to Pete , my record came yesterday so I will be able to play it today in the Twisted Wheel second room Actually Sean showed me his copy last night and played it to a well appreciative crowd last night , went down really well it was lovely to see some of the younger elements in the crowd really get down to it. Carms x
Soul-slider Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I see the track was featured on 'Great Night Out' (new TV series set in Stockport).

TOAD Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 err the new 54 46 what do you mean one is ska the other reggae
Pete S Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 err the new 54 46 what do you mean one is ska the other reggae I think what was meant was that for some reason, they are playing 54-46 at soul do's now so Broadway Jungle could become the next 54-46. Next thing they'll discover such obscurities as John Jones, Live Injection and Guns Of Navarone.
Anais nin Carms Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 (edited) Guns of Navaron , the ten commandments , and Phoenix city are well known Wheel plays , I thought it would be nice to play Broadway Jungle for a change, think I may have come across it from a Hideaway CD ? 54 46 is as you say Toad , however it has been very popular on the scene and its now time for a new wide ball tune to excite those that like this sort of stuff , I may be wrong but I think Dog War could be just as popular the fact that it is Ska is academic to someone who normally isn't into anything that is reg/ska orientated... all in my opinion off course. Sorry I was being a bit facetious (?) because of the plays for 54-46 and that vocal to Double Barrel, not the original 60's spins. There's literally an endless list of fantastic ska tunes waiting to be picked up on though. Most of the best ones you can hear on my blogsite! https://lostvinylgemsofthe60s.blogspot.co.uk/ 1
