Lambrettagp200 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I've seen the above on a Harbro Horace release & Kent. I'm positive the Horace release was first, but are there any others? In an ovo situation, which is acceptable to play out? Cheers.
Chalky Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 The original release was the Kent Anniversary release. Horace was I think the next then other Kent. Anything other than a Kent related release is a boot. 2
Chalky Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Oh and I play it out off the Anniversary 45 when I get the chance, fantastic dancer. 3
Dennisoul Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Absolutely one of the best of best, I remember Ady playing this as the last record at the 100 club a while back....inspirational bit of DJing by Ady C
Lambrettagp200 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Thanks for the info. What anniversary was it? Sadly never hear it nowadays, but it was massive at scooter rallies mid eighties. Also seen someone on youtube saying it was played at Wigan...is that correct??
Pete S Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Also seen someone on youtube saying it was played at Wigan...is that correct?? It'd have a job, Wigan had been closed for a few years before Magic Touch was even discovered 2
Lambrettagp200 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 That's what i thought Pete, as i always though it was a new discovery in the 80's. Maybe the guy on youtube just got mixed up lol! 1
Pete S Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 That's what i thought Pete, as i always though it was a new discovery in the 80's. Maybe the guy on youtube just got mixed up lol! He probably just guessed!
Gene-r Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 That's what i thought Pete, as i always though it was a new discovery in the 80's. Maybe the guy on youtube just got mixed up lol! It was one of the unreleased tapes Ady Croasdell brought back from his trip to the States in Autumn 1984.
Windlesoul Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Re the Wigan bit - the Bobby Fuller take the poster was referring to maybe? Edited January 8, 2013 by Windlesoul 1
Lambrettagp200 Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 No mate, check nsoulchris video of the track. Some dude refering to "casino" & "chalkies" in the comments called Carpetmann! Maybe i'm just reading it wrong?!? Maybe he's talking about another Casino!!
Guest nsoulchris Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 There was no 'Magic Touch' at the Casino
kevinsoulman Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 played at cleethorpes so odds on it was at wigan as well kev https://youtu.be/fO0ndrMB44A
Mellorful Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) The original release was the Kent Anniversary release. Horace was I think the next then other Kent. Anything other than a Kent related release is a boot. Just seen the link on discogs which suggests Melba Moore - Magic touch was one of Ady's finds and he put it to vinyl. The dates suggest the Kent was after the Horace's label issue. I can't imagine Ady issuing a bootleg can you? Hence the UK OVO would be Horace's release. https://www.discogs.com/label/115895-Horaces-Records Edited July 16, 2014 by mellorful
Dobber Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 the horaces copy is surely the first release, sure it has a decent tommy hunt tune on the back
Chalky Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) The anniversary one was the second anniversary 45 1986 (6th anniversary). Keb and Ady had been playing it Stafford and 100 Club and anywhere where they dj'ed for a couple of years. I thought the Horace release was towards the end of the 80's, I certainly don't remember seeing it until after the anniversary release. Edited July 16, 2014 by chalky 1

Benji Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 the horaces copy is surely the first release, sure it has a decent tommy hunt tune on the back Discogs pretty accurate for this track: 1) 6t's anniv 45 1986 2) Magic Touch Kent LP 1986 3) Horaces 45 1987 (?) 4) Fabulus 45 2002 5) Kent 45 2003 6) Musicor lookalike (pressing) 2009
dthedrug Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 HI ALL "THE MAGIC TOUCH" MELBA MOORE was discovered by Ady , who I believe got a dub plate made as the record was unreleased, on the same tape that had "don't cry sing along with the music" which was spun at the Torch VAVA & the first couple of Wigan casino all nighters, in 1973, Ady made the record an integral part of his sett in 85? the record was so popular he made it available on the 2nd 100 club anniversary (although it was not} my copy was given to me by a real friend 100 club DJ Mick Smith, which carried on until #17, when people were paying good money for the latest disc on the night, I have received a couple from Ady in the last few years, I think when it comes to finding new undiscovered soul Gems Ady has the MAGIC TOUCH DAVE K 1

Tony Smith Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Didn't it have the wrong anniversary number on it, which was tippexed over?
El Corol Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) I remember being at one 100 club anniversary around 85 or 86 and never got a record on the night, was there an anniversary where the free 45 wasn't available on the actual night or is the memory playing up. And if I am remembering correctly then can I still claim my free single? Edited July 17, 2014 by El Corol
jimmy clitheroe Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Just out of interest ,What do anniversary & Horace's 45's fetch these days? Cheers paul
Chalky Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I can remember the Chubby Checker (Jimmy Radcliffe) "You can't lose something" was late and given out at one of the Yarmouth Weekenders but that was 1990 ish.

El Corol Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I can remember the Chubby Checker (Jimmy Radcliffe) "You can't lose something" was late and given out at one of the Yarmouth Weekenders but that was 1990 ish. The night I'm on about was definately the mid to later 80's. I seem to remember it being The Magic Touch as I was a bit miffed at missing out on it, then again I also remember being, how shall I say, a little worse for wear that night!
El Corol Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) HI ALL,,,, HERES A "MAGIC TOUCH" FACT, For a future Prime time Quiz call "listen to this classic" Q. which stalwart from the NORTHERN SOUL SCENE, A TOP MIDLANDS DJ, who borrowed my copy for a few months to play? at the time it was the only copy about, clue 2 he also borrowed my copy of the Silhouettes "not me baby" on GOODWAY, That I never saw again? dthedrug Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 We need a bigger clue than that Dave to narrow it down. I'd be pretty pissed to be ripped of a copy of The Silhouettes. HI ALL... Clues more clues, I don't think you need any more, yes I was pissed of after months of waiting I was inform it had been stolen,, after 1 year with no hope off ever seeing it I was given £20 the price I had paid for the record, 2 weeks later the record turned up, not stolen at all just mislaid, when I asked for it, I was turned down as I had received payment, yes I was a wee bit gutted, one of 10001 story's in the strange world of northern soul, DAVE K
Ady Croasdell Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 the anniversary number has been tippexed out on mine in that case, yes to Tony's question. Though i have no recollection!
Ady Croasdell Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I remember being at one 100 club anniversary around 85 or 86 and never got a record on the night, was there an anniversary where the free 45 wasn't available on the actual night or is the memory playing up. And if I am remembering correctly then can I still claim my free single? we didn't do them for the 3rd4th & 5th and possibly the one after Melba? A couple of times they weren't ready and you had to swap your ticket for them
Ady Croasdell Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Didn't it have the wrong anniversary number on it, which was tippexed over? so what number was wrong?
Supercorsa Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Didn't it have the wrong anniversary number on it, which was tippexed over? the anniversary number has been tippexed out on mine so what number was wrong? My copy is also tippexed over. I was worried about that until reading this thread. It's the small number in the writing at the top/middle of the label. It's more of a dot of tippex as opposed to a long line of it. Edited July 18, 2014 by Supercorsa
Sebastian Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I have another US version somewhere...is it Triangle?.A white label from memory. Yes, Triangle on AMARET. Similar but inferior to the Bobby Fuller Four version in my opinion.
Guest miff Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Try this from 2013 by the Primaveras, not a bad cover IMO
jocko Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 so what number was wrong? Eh shouldn't you be answering that question I told you all those years rubbing your balls red and then hitting them with a big bat would affect you long term! 1
Chalky Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) My Melba Moore anniversary 45 isn't tip exed out, this is my second copy, my first wasn't either as far as I can remember. Oh and it's 6T 2 from 1986. Edited July 18, 2014 by chalky

Benji Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Didn't it have the wrong anniversary number on it, which was tippexed over? Don't know about the tippex ones my copy is fine. But yes, wrong anniversary number. It reads "6T's 5th anniversary" on the label. But it was the 6th anniversary. Edited July 18, 2014 by Benji 1
