Guest CARL D Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi there, does anyone know if this is an original? https://www.ebay.com/itm/NORTHERN-SOUL-45RPM-BOBBIE-SMITH-on-AMERICAN-ARTS-RECORDS-/370726558190?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item56510659ee many thanks, Carl.
Tiberius Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 The seller is Lew & Marsha Stanley, not in the habit of selling boots in my experience. I'm sure it would be noted in the description if there were any concerns.
Tlscapital Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi there, Lew and Marsha indeed and looks like it's the styrene. It's been too long since I've had a boot in hand to compare close, but the boot was vinyl. does anyone know if this is an original? https://www.ebay.com/...=item56510659ee many thanks, Carl.
Chris L Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi there, does anyone know if this is an original? https://www.ebay.com/...=item56510659ee many thanks, Carl. Perhaps you can ask the seller ? Crazy idea I know but it might just work...................
Chris L Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Talking of Bobbie Smith........................Here's one you don't see that often for sale, only ever heard it once, Ian Levine played it on Richards Searling's JazzFM program. Nice choon. 1
Mrtag Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Usually have 2 lines across the centre! Ask if it's styrene? if it's vinyl it's made for walking (boot)
Chris L Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Usually have 2 lines across the centre! Ask if it's styrene? if it's vinyl it's made for walking (boot) The "two lines" is a good indication but not all had them.
Pete S Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi there, does anyone know if this is an original? https://www.ebay.com/...=item56510659ee many thanks, Carl. If it's styrene it's original, simple as that
Dave Pinch Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 and the white ones are the 1st label variation,,,,styrene orig vinyl boot
Guest CARL D Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Yes Chris-the most obvious course of action to solve the query-just had a reply from Marsha, and it is original styrene. It's always helpful to get advice from collectors/dealers whose knowledge of 45s is greater than mine tho'... Thanks, Carl. Perhaps you can ask the seller ? Crazy idea I know but it might just work...................
Premium Stuff Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Why are you asking all this on a live auction? Either you're not bidding so don't care too much - or you are a bidder and have encouraged more folk like you who were also unsure to bid. Richard

If you had bought it and it did turn out to be a boot, there'd be no issue in getting a refund. Edited January 8, 2013 by Chris L
Guest sharmo 1 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I'm certain the boots don't have the "yeah , yeah" at the end so seems to be slightly shorter than the original.I'd be intrested in any thought's on this regards Simon.
Guest CARL D Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Blimey Richard! What's wrong with asking about the authenticity of a record, whether bidding on it, or not???
Soulman Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 If it's styrene it's original, simple as that Shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong but can I beg to differ. I'm sure mine came from John at Soul Bowl and I'm convinced it's vinyl (demo) and a different label design. Obviously I need to dig it out but I've always been under the impression it was original as John didn't deal in boots. Are there any telltale stamps that may indicate authenticity Cheers Steve

Which is styrene only.
dthedrug Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 HI ALL Back in the 8ts I got a few stock copies from Mick Smith and that was never booted, so it's the one to get, the trouble with white label DEMOS, when booted they cause confusion, what I call the "ROSEMARY"? EFFECT, following that classic being booted the price for it halved over night! DAVE K
