John May
I've never had a record go missing in over 20 years of buying records and selling them, No problems here with the post office. Top marks Link to comment Social source share
Guest Netspeaky
Posting out the only problem I have experienced is the odd record being returned to me as it wasn't signed for and not picked up. Received everything that I've ordered, in a timely fashion. Verdict A++++ for the Post Office. Link to comment Social source share

( i think a month is long enough to wait ) name and shame that's what I say Must admit whilst my post office have never lost anything in recent times, they are all over the place on actually delivering signed for / registered. Follow this - they temporarily lost a record, which they then found and said it was coming up on a van on Saturday. Fine. The van arrives and I get three parcels, but not the one that was lost. "It must be down the post office" says the man in the van scratching his head. So off I hot foot down to the PO. "No not here but I got two others here for you" they say. Get home and there's a card through my door the van has been back and I wasn't in So I ring the PO, and the kindly lady tells me when the van man returns she'll send him back with said package. In due course he re-appears with lost package which had been on the van all the time. As I say nothing lost but a few hairy moments. Link to comment Social source share

Bigsoulman
Never had one problem with them since I started getting records through the post over 20 years ago, the stick they get is unreal, I think they do a great job under the circumstances, now that i've said that they'll lose my next record Lenny Link to comment Social source share
Guest WPaulVanDyk
Where i live it's hit and miss, you wouldn't believe it. You get some post at say 3.00pm. Sometimes they post saying parcel to picked up at depot but the worst of them all is they sometimes put on a letter parcel left in shed/bin now it might not seem bad but it can be if someone came round or just went snooping and wanted to see what was in the shed/bin, how do i know they don't nick it. Guest TONY ROUNCE
My postman is brilliant, he even signs for my recorded stuff and shoves them under my back gate. No complaints from Sunny Surb. I'm in the same delivery district as my namesake, and can vouch for the quality of our posties. When Helen and I became parents last year, our local fella even left us to the last delivery on his round, so that he wouldn't have to knock and wake the baby too early. If anything ever does arrive broken (as has happened twice, funnily enough, in the last month) I am in no doubt that the fault lies further down the line that Surbiton sorting office... Not only is there a regular flow of vinyl, but the missus is an ebay queen. My posties are all brilliant too. My local postman also signs for my records but goes one step further and also takes them home with him. He then brings them back up to my house later in the evening. He's fantastic. Guest NS101
A guy i know sent out a parcel using a dvd box which he covered by stickers and tape. Now you know how big a dvd box is dont you. Well, the GPO lost it. That's the equivalent of losing an elephant in a shop. But then the problem lies with the post office and their 2 services. The parcel force thing is a different thing to royal mail, ie normal letters up to 2 kilo's. Royal mail is much more efficient nowadays compared with the parcel force side of things. Then again i recall a BBC prog last year which was a follow up to a year earlier about the royal mail service and how certain mail to various addresses were not arriving. They were doing the usual send out 50 letters 1st class to see how many arrived next day, and the results if i remember correctly were pitiful. IMO using the gpo or parcel force is always a risky proposition but they can only get better if they have competition. The Trainee Link to comment Social source share

I have worked for the Royal Mail for 28 years (it was the GPO when I started) and "competition" as you call it won't work. Check it out, who are the competition and who are they likely to employ? Yup, they pay peanuts and they'll get monkeys, in some cases incompetent and maybe thieving monkeys. The ONLY thing that competetition WILL bring is less work for RM from BIG BUSINESS mailers, not ordinary Joes like us, that's where 95% of RM's business is NOW, TODAY. What is competition gonna bring to SME's like most of our record dealing friends, I'll save your breath, BUGGER ALL! When competition is creating a market that is split between different carriers, what will happen, less employment in RM, less depots to collect your mail from, less PO Counters to take your mail to, watcha gonna do? Support the RM now not later when your choices will be what's left of us, DeutschPost, TNT, etc. Last point, take a look at the majority of the thread, people like the postie, they trust the postie, they appreciate the "extra mile" (see, I know all the management bulls**t) that these people go to, to look after people. The reason these people do it? PRIDE! Competition will force RM to shrink back and let these people go, replaced with god knows what or who. Finally, I'll say it's about time this site got a bit more politicised and begun to fight the power. Socialist Soul take a stand!!!! Spyro out!!! bozaboy
She wouldnt be around in a socialist world, would she?,and your right less vitriol might work better, sorry Ken, in a Republican world she would, just in a smaller house and she'd have to wait for a bloody hip replacement! AND, she could put her own bets on instead of sending a lackey down to the bookies AND her inbread dimwit two-bagger grabbing first son could get a proper job. I like it better when we don't fight! For the record (hey hey, a pun!), I'd like to see a publicly owned and publicly accountable Royal Mail, preferably not run(down!) by an ex-barrow boy, Leeds United director who'll p**s off when his knighthood turns up. I'm proud of RM, started collecting again (aaarggh, a returing soulie!) in '98, NEVER lost an item from any country (except Belgium, of course, where the idea is you pay, they thieve - private postal service, I believe) by the hand of my colleagues. I'm with them! Edited April 29, 2006 by bozaboy Link to comment Social source share

Spyro out!!! bozaboy, I'm also a postie 19 years & agree with everything you've written. The competition are only interested in delivering to big mail users on big industrial estates. Royal mail are forced to (regulator) deliver letters from TNT, DeutschPost already at (a managers quote to me) 8 pence a letter. Like you say competition will make Royal mail shrink back, so they can still make their profits. Link to comment Social source share
