.........hello all,isnt there 2 versions of cut you loose ? one called cut you a loose ? or summat,am i right in thinking it has a £400ish price tag ? and how much is the joe simon on irral please ? i was reminded of this superb tune again on chalkys fantastic stafford podcasts ,any help or info appreciated,thanks for yr time

Ricky Allen - Tamboo is the later, funkier cut, the AGE version is a different, but also good version (in an earlier r&B style).

Joe Simon came out on Dot as well if my memory serves me, same cut I think.

Joe Simon is same cut, but released on two labels, Irral and Dot

A few copies of Joe Simon slipped through quite cheap last year,

£50-ish on the Joe Simon.

I've been offered £350 for Ricky Allen, but turned it down as I'm not bothered about selling it.

Two different presses on the Irral 45 as well (one also crediting Eugene Blacknells Band & one not)

Joe Simon isn't expensive can be got for 30/40 if lucky. Joe about right though.

Arnie,check out James Cotton's version on youtube.

I could be completely wrong hear, but the Joe Simon track. I think it's exactly the same with a slightly different label design and one is made of vinyl and the other styrene? Sorry if I'm wrong.

just gave it a listen kev,deffo one for the mods bud,can anyone tell me if the two releases on irral are exactly the same cuts please ? and which release is the original, irral with band credited,irral without band credited or dot ?

Sorry Jason, I Don't know, thought Irral 1st, but wasn't aware of band credits on one version & not on another ?

The copy I have is the plain version without the credits.

thanks guys for your help,ive listened to both label variations (the two irral labels) and i think one was very slightly different,one sounded a little bit flatter if u get my drift ? but i could very well be wrong on that,im hoping someone will have a defininate answer,i listened to both on youtube by the way

I believe that the Irral 45 was released in 1963 and must have sold well enough in California to warrant a 2nd press + a national distribution deal with Dot (probably a few months after its Irral issue at the very end of 63 or early 64).

The 45 raised Joe's profile enough for Irral to land him a record contract with VJ.

Irral Berger (who ran the Irral label) wrote both “My Adorable One” & “Say (That Your Love Is True)” that Joe had released on a VJ 45 in August 1964 (his 2nd VJ outing I think). Of course, we don't know if Irral Berger actually wrote those songs or if he just took credit for them as part of the deal that resulted in Joe cutting them.

"My Adorable One" was cut by a number of other artists & a few versions sold well, so Irral must have made a bit of money from it down the years.

Is there any difference in the red and blue label ricky allen on tamboo?
