Me and a mate run a do in Wetherby, found out that a promoter who runs other local nites has asked the club owners if he can do a Motown nite in our club. Now i think this is wrong as me and Andy have put a lot of work into getting it up and running as any promoter knows. He could argue that its totally different music but Motown is soul music, slip a few soul tracks in,hey presto another soul nite, could,nt give a toss if it were a reggae or country and western do, but motown is to close a music to soul.Thought it was just a "code" or gentlemans agreement that once a venue had been secured by someone you did,nt step in, i would,nt do it. I would,nt mind but he hates Motown!! To be honest we,ve nothing to worry about as the owners have said there not interested in him, but i,d like to know what others think and if they have had happen to them.

On the face of it, I think it's pretty much out of order.

That said, it is possible the 'Motown guy' only just asked very speculatively to test the water as to whether this was even an option.

In any the case, the decent thing, if you all know each other, would have been to speak to you guys about it first.

Yes, Motown is so close that I think it's 'competition'.

Suggest you just work on the owner to make sure he does knock back the Motown night.

If it looks like it's going ahead - suggest a discussion with the other chap so you can work out between you how best to work things so you can complement, rather than compete with each other.

Hopefully, that should then be that.

Cheers

The problem is when you have such a class venue certain people become jealous and want a piece, thankfully the owner is on our side.

A lot of common sense here . Same thing recently happened with De Grey Rooms York . A wannabe promoter with a wad of cash who also wanted to DJ, tried to muscle in - but to no avail . Perhaps same person is checking out other successful ventures/venues ?
