JOE TORQUAY Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Prophets If I Had (one Gold Piece) C/w Huh Baby SHRINE TIME! FOUR TIMES more humans have walked on the moon than actually own a clean copy of this priceless Northern Soul Holy Grail. I’m reliably informed, that this too, is the cleanest, finest condition copy in existence. Gaze on that label, click the sound-file and dream of ownership as I’m pretty certain I’ll never have the privilege of listing this record again. A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a monumental Northern Soul rarity! NOTE. Allegedly this 45 is one of only THREE known copies, both the other two are reputedly in significantly poorer condition - you are not only viewing the very RAREST OF THE RARE but also the very finest example possible to own. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 9,991.00 Johnny Caswell You Don't Love Me Anymore C/w I.o.u. Santa here is a Wigan Casino anthem ! No introduction required .. a recognized All-Time-Great! Presented here in immaculate condition, fine clean vinyl & perfect labels. Resist if you can… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 450.00 Buckinghams Don't You Care BRITISH Collectors we think this is rather special. Killer Chicago Northern Soul and a former Cleethorpes Pier and Wigan Casino dancefloor filler. From the pen of THE MOB’s lead man James Holvay comes a most-perfectly uplifting blue-eyed Northern Soul dance tune. Before you today is not only it’s rarest form - the 1967 UK DEMO but also accompanied by the European Picture sleeve (carrying the same release #) that the CBS promotional team decided would add extra interest to their mail-out. UK Oriole also used this ploy for extra-attention with some of their licensed Motown promo’s. A package I’ve certainly not seen in memory and the ultimate way of owning this fine song! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Martha And The Vandellas Come And Get These Memories One of the ultimate UK Tamla Motown albums to own - ridiculously RARE! This copy has beautiful clean vinyl only revealing occasional fine hairline surface blemishes in strong light - plays flawless. Both labels are perfect. Front cover has light corner bumps and a few very light laminate crease-veins (see scan) Back cover is totally clean and free of any writing stains or tears. Overall this is a fine, fine copy of an album we have only ever listed twice in the last 20 years. Martha Reeves’s first album perfectly displaying the black artist prejudiced of the early 60s when some record shops refused to stock albums with “black” artist pictures as the front cover. Historically priceless, musically supreme…rarity is unquestionable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 253.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 Holly Maxwell Don't Say You Love Me Until You Do Those sweet vocals of Holly Maxwell would echo around that hallowed temple of Rare Soul perched over the North Sea, taking the chill out of the air as this mid-tempo delight begged you to dance. Poke the iconic Cleethorpes Pier DJ was never one to follow the crowd, being the first jock to spin Rain - Out Of My Mind, perhaps followed by Calvin Grayson and somewhere in the set was Holly Maxwell, Herbert Hunter and preceded by some crazed FUNK 45 that no one had ever heard of. Poke never a DJ scared of an empty floor - because he knew he had the tools in his box to bring ‘em back. Holly Maxwell was just one of those tools - a record absolutely ripe for a huge turntable revival 36 years after Poke first “broke” it gently to The Pier personnel.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 180.00 Jr. Walker & The All Stars What Does It Take (to Win Your Love) Some of the late 60s green & white Tamla Motown PROMO’s are actually more elusive than the much-prized mid-60s Red & White’s. Our 15 year old computer data suggests this example is one of the very seldom-seen ones. Absolutely immaculate copy, perfect labels, vinyl only revealing two breif faint blemishes in strong light. This is a beautiful example of Motown most covered Northern Soul offering. With B. J. Thomas, Bay Brothers, Electrifying Cashmeres, Buddy Miles, Motherlode all doing fabulous versions - but not having the luxury of Autry DeWalt’s sax-god skills. This still is the standout version of Johnny Bristol, Harvey Fuqua & Vernon Bullock finest creation. Timeless, spotless and to some priceless in memories…. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 101.00 Counts (our Love's Gonna Be) Stronger Than Ever C/w Gospel Truth Strap yourself in THE COUNTS are gonna take you on a roller-coaster journey of relentlessly pumping NORTHERN SOUL! From the very first note to the last you’ll be compelled to move to this inventive, unusual but totally addictive tune, as build on a wave of horns, rattling bongo’s a distinctive vocal takes the reins driving this session from one height to another. Well timed instrumental breaks, experimental riffs but still that irresistible lead vocal is hammering theb lyrics home - all support my harmony “La’s la’s” that gel the whole thing together! UTTERLY BRILLIANT…but that’s not all… The flip is a crazed hammond session that would ignite any MOD gathering into an explosive hipshakin’ orgy of dance… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 267.00 Terry Gengis Gonna Be There C/w Shape That Body An obscure General Crook & Terry Gengis D.I.Y. collaboration that gives up two strong street-level 80s dance Tunes. Sitting comfortably between Soul & Boogie both sides carry huge potential for the rare-soul-dance market, especially the mysterious French Boogie scene. Seldom seen for sale - this double-disco-delight could well rise up as a force in the UK too… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 9.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 Ike Noble Fresh Start A more expressive vocal would be hard to imagine - as Ike gets so soulful it hurts! an 8 track D.I.Y. masterpiece a perfect blend of upbeat dance grooves punctuated by aching-pleading soulful ballads and steppers of the highest calibre. It’s hard to pick out the stand-out tracks so we sound-filed all 8 for 30 seconds each - My fave is the LP only “I’m gonna miss your love” immerse yourself in the 50 second clip - an outrageously slab of ground-level soul. RARE in the extreme - soulful in the utmost sense… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 99.00 Tony Bowens & The Soul Choppers Boilin' Water C/w Don't Be So Mean Records cannot get any more primitively obscure than naming the label the same as the artist, but then it is a 100% Tony Bowens family project, but after some digging the following information emerged: This 8 member band had standing room only performance in Hartford, Connecticut. You’d think from this double punchy example of their only recorded work they were seasoned professionals but the vast majority of the band attended Hartford High School when this killer was recorded. Tony Bowens - Sax, Lonnie Bowens - Bass, Diane Bowens - rhythm guitar, two trumpets were blown by Bob Witting & Glen Scott, Carl Colbert on the Drums, Eli Williams - lead guitar and Phil Andrews on the hammond. Excruciatingly RARE and so darn potent =- BOTH sides! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 62.00 Sissie Houston Bring Hm Back C/w World Of Broken Hearts Condition, Condition, Condition! Not only is this 45 the infinitely rarer RED STOCK copy it is also in the finest condition you could ever wish to meet. Sissie’s New York session with Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman motivates this Soul Diva right to the top of her game; with a topside of archetypical thumping Northern Soul, a femme-stomper that simultaneously rocked Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier. But take time for the flipside - a Big City Beater of immense proportions. Cissie sounding very much like our “Dusty” slowly meanders through the opening lines, casually and masterfully ratcheting up the vocal, so slowly it takes you by surprise when she hits the crescendo.. and how!!! THIS IS BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN hidden away on the flipside of Proper-Northern-Soul… A Red-Ruby shimming in it’s Mint condition, easy on the eye and delivering the goods two times over.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00 Carol Mogan I've Got Everything C/w I Know Where I Stand Seriously rare Chicago girl Northern Soul, showcasing another Windy City attempt to hitch a ride on Motown’s Mary Wells success.. The prolific Bobby Miller composes a beautiful mid-tempo floater carrying all the ingredients that proved successful for the aforementioned but Carol’s double-delight failed miserably in sales creating a very rarely seen Chicago NS rarity. Flip is over for a Billy Butler & Otis Leavill song that this little known lady tackles with sultry soulfulness aided by strong girl-group backing. Two Jackie Ross style beauties with both sides offering classy NS strollers of highest quality. Rarity? - utterly dog-rare… as you already knew. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 233.00

Cunnie Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Ike Noble a bargain. Had an early bid on it & was going back to it but bloody forgot it was Wednesday as in holiday mode Terry Gengis for £9 was a steal too but it's the 12" that goes for the money & not the 7". As for the Prophets, well I'm sure enough of you other members will comment on that. Wonder what the next Shrine disc will be as he seems to be offloading them by the dozen.
Philt Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Just occasionally, things happen which lead me to conclude that i reside in a parallel universe. 3
JOE TORQUAY Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 please look on the ( look at your box ) SECTION FOR THE FULL LIST AS THESE ARE ON THE WRONG PAGE SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE
Jaco Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 The Prophets - 10k, absolutely sublime group harmony and even if that price is obscene in some eyes, the owner has one of the finest tracks ever put on vinyl. 1
boba Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Terry Gengis for £9 was a steal too but it's the 12" that goes for the money & not the 7". that's the going rate. it's like a $5-$15 record.
MrsWoodsrules Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Just occasionally, things happen which lead me to conclude that i reside in a parallel universe. Phil, isn't it a parallel universe once you get on the other side of that turntable on stage? Top man you mate. Aid.
Cunnie Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 that's the going rate. it's like a $5-$15 record. What's the going rate for the 12" then Bob? Know that's what the Boogie fans want. Must admit to being surprised to see it in his auction in the first place.
Benji Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 If anyone's after the Buckingham sleeve, feel free to PM me. It's a dutch one the used for the UK 45 and I'm sure I got one filed away (the sleeve that is not the 45!).

Must admit to being surprised to see it in his auction in the first place. don't know values of 12"s. Dave Thorley has a copy of the 45 on his website for sale for $30. i do know someone who's one of terry's best friends and also have emails of a humorous interaction between a collector who was selling a copy of the 45 and terry contacting him and threatening him.

Have heard something about that before. Think it was mentioned on here about him wanting a percentage of the selling price. Wonder if he'll chase Manship up for some of the £9 it sold for Also just realised that a Terry Gengis & a Prophets is exactly £10,000. Now I got a Terry Gengis so if someone wants to add a Prophets to it we could sell the pair for £10,000 & do a straight split on the money
