Guest lolmil Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Modern Tunes An Old School NS Boy Might Love If you were trying to enlighten somebody who'd been into northern for a long while & couldn't quite get their head around modern/crossover what would you play them? Depends on how "modern" you want to go!

I'd play them the uptempo house tunes that get played on the Northern scene. DJ Genesis Vince Montana Ron Hall and the Muthafunkah's Don't play them the midtempo stuff,I've been down that road. It's got to be fast and uptempo to get their attention Pete

Guest Dodger Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Anything that has a 'swing-yer-pants' beat such as OC Smith "I'm Glad I Fell In Love With You", Impact "Smile Awhile" and tunes of that ilk.
Guest Dodger Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I'd play e'm this That's nice Mart, new one on me, how old's that? Is that Mel'isa Morgan on vocal? Couldn't see it converting an old 'norman' though mate.
Soulsmith Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 I'd play e'm this 0. Ooh I like this, but maybe a step too far for people stuck in a 4/4 beat (not that thats a bad place to be) Any more mp3s peeps? Col. That's nice Mart, new one on me, how old's that? Is that Mel'isa Morgan on vocal? Couldn't see it converting an old 'norman' though mate. I suppose that would be Normal Soul Trousers
Cunnie Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Ya right Roger, Me'lisa Morgan off last years album (forgot name at moment). Thought i'd heard you playing it late on last year? Was going to put up the Chris Knight bootleg mix of Johnny Taylor's "What About My Love" but i think i'd end up getting tarred & feathered Maybe your'e right Soulsmith but i was into up-tempo northern many years ago (still am i guess) & think if your'e into 120 bpm stuff from the 60s ya gonna be into the same sort of tempo with 2k stuff. Will post some more up tomorrow night for you
Guest Dodger Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Ya right Roger, Me'lisa Morgan off last years album (forgot name at moment). Thought i'd heard you playing it late on last year? Mart, that just goes to show I buy far more music these days than it's possible for me to listen to, what a nob. I've got that CD but didn't know that track!! Nice one mate, I'd missed that one completely.

Remembered what album called now, "I Remember!" what a nob Rest of the album didn't do too much for me, seemed like they tried to squeeze too much onto it, bout 18 tracks i think & it lost a bit production wise IMO.
Ernie Andrews Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Quantic (featuring Spanky WIlson) Dont joke with a hungry man (sounds like a cross between Frankie crocker and james brown) Now deleted and not easy to get. Cunnie Williams - Come back to me - On a french label- was going for silly money

Cunnie Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Kin Ell ! ........Strangely compelling :good: ,but why? Different innit, you want to hate it but you just can't bring yourself to do it & at the end of the day it is Lou Pride. Bet he made a load more money from this version than he did from the original Hope he did anyway..
John Al Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) See what you think of this from Lou Pride from last year from the album Keep On Believing. Like it - thanks. Reminds me of Sam Dees reworking of Lonely For You from the album in the 90's John. Edited April 27, 2006 by John Alden
