Premium Stuff Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Hi everyone I've puzzled over the Jackie Harris release "Don't Worry 'Bout De Back Door" on Inter/Soul #102. This came out in 1974 according to the label. I always thought it strange that this was released so late in the day, given that it has a real mid-60s sound. It was of course previously released by Jackie Harris on Chess #1946 but titled "No Kind Of Man" - around 1965. The tracks seem at least similar, if not identical. Anyone got any more info please, and can anyone explain the strange 9-year gap between the two releases, or the change of song title and credits? Plus, was it recorded in Chicago, Detroit, or elsewhere? Cheers Richard

Dave Thorley Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Inter/Soul was a Detroit based label owned Ernest Kelly. He put out a mixture of new and older material a fair few tracks were re-mixes of older material.
Guest stonedsoul Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 jackie harris owned and operated the black and proud label while he was here in minnesota in the late 60's working as a radio dj at kuxl, we just had him back here not too long ago for a concert, he's still around and i believe living in ohio, maybe you can track him down and ask him!

Interesting - so that would probably place him in Minnesota in between the Chess release and the Inter/Soul release (although, if the Inter/Soul release is identical then presumably that was just run off the original master tapes?). Some people describe it as funk - but it sounds blues or at least R&B to me - whatever, it's top-drawer Imagine how cool and laid back the session would have been when they put the track down. Anyone know if it was just dubbed from a vinyl Chess copy - or if that was even the kind of thing those guys got up to at that time? Cheers Richard
