Chairmen Of The Board

What's The Use

ready 1, 2, - 1,2,3 - FOUR!

General Johnson is about to blow you away and lifted someone’s DJ set into a Northern Soul legendary status…

After hearing this the first time I was speechless - as visions of my 1970 Soul-Boy apprenticeship came flooding back - “Give Me Just A Little More Time” “You’ve Got Me Dangling On A String” catalysts that nailed me to a lifetime of soul.

Recorded in those summer sessions of Detroit excellence when the Motown escapees Holland - Dozier - Holland joined forces with Ron Dunbar and under the pseudonym Edyth Wayne scouted the finest soul vocals available to launch the INVICTUS label.

Amazingly this recording missed out on release and has laid undiscovered since 1970. We think you’ll agree this ACETATE has the potential to be THE TOP TUNE on the scene.

Paradisaical Northern Soul that will knock em all dead… I’m still in shock..

Goin' To A Happening

Hunters of the Northern Soul WHITE DEMO - we thought hey this is one you don’t see too often…

Especially in condition that suggests it may have been cocooned all it’s live in a USA collection that didn’t appreciate the genius pairing of Richard Popcorn Wylie and Tony Hester.

This vision of black & white vision of beauty is utterly PERFECT!

Hear That Beat

Want to turn heads and shake-up a few vintage memories?

The ex-Cleethoropes, St. Ives & Casino oldie is just so very elusive you just never hear it played anymore.

Click the soundfile to enjoy blue-eyed girl Northern Soul at it’s best as this Pittsburgh lady belts out a punchy monumsntal slab of NS. This copy comers cmplete with an excruciating ad primitive artist picture sleeve manufactured by Millage Records, Pittsburgh with Kelly strangely hiding her face with her hand - did she have “British Teeth” ? Certainly didn’t hinfder her mighty vocal from shaking those pioneering clubs of the 70s.

Today this is rarely seen for sale - with the “special” dental sleeve - NEVER!

Lover C/w Tell Me Why

Classic Cleethorpes Pier!

Classic Wigan Casino!

And a Northern Soul classic you just can’t tire of hearing.

This is RARE vocal-group Northern Soul of the very highest calibre as New Yorkers Sonny Casella & Tommy Keith join forces and produce a vibrant lesson in 60s Soul dance.

Interestingly Tommy & Sonny have huge pedigrees in Northern Soul - with Tommy Keith delighting us with his ultra-rare Walter Wilson disguise on Wand and Sonny Casella the driving force behind the Dooley Silverspoon “Game Players”

So two men with a penchant for upbeat driving soul put together one of the cornerstones of our sound. Rare in the extreme, so desirable and this is pristine in every respect.

H. Andrews Congregation

Stop! Leave Me Alone C/w Chitlin Circuit

Bay Area singer/writer/producer Harold Andrews made a significant contribution to Northern Soul - huge in fact - as all his records are rare.

From The Inticers on Baby Luv tohis own Balance label recordings or his especially commissioned for Northern Soul by Bob Cateneo the magnificent “Since I Lost My Baby” on HLS, this guy could do no wrong.

This disc underlines that statement as Harold presents perfect Soulful crossover on one side, then serves up a hunk-of-FUNK on the flipside.

An unsung hero of street-level Soul who’s versatility knew no boundaries, this 45 showcases his talents perfectly.

Wil Collins And Willpower

Anything I Can Do

In short ..

The most-vibrant most-perfect 70s dance-offering the New York disco scene gave to Northern Soul..

Uniques

Not Too Long Ago

Not only are you are viewing one of the “impossible” British release 60s Northern Soul 45s, you are also looking at a pristine 1965 UK DEMO of Joe Stampley’s dancefloor favourite.

Although this 1965 Shreveport, Louisiana creation was a minor hit for Paula records upon it’s USA debut, in the UK it sold virtually nothing. In fact I can’t even remember the last time I saw a stock copy of this potent Northern Soul dancer.

So, if your serious about hunting down the very-best-of-British this ultra-elusive 45 is right up there with the most-desirable.

Remembering the condition could hardly be better.

The Larure C/w Soul Au Go Go

SHRINE TIME! in it’s rarest format.

Canadian BLACK Decca and how enticing does it look!

A 1966 Eddie Singleton project that rocketed to Northern Soul Hall Of Fame 70s through Ian Levine & The Blackpool Mecca, The Torch, Catacombs and in fact all the pre-Wigan Casino all nighter this was one of the most-talked about, most danced to and obviously most-wanted 45s in the embryonic days of Northern Soul.

I do remember actually witnessing one of these rarities in the Wigan Casino record bar circa 1975 - ownership was on my wish list for two decades after spying this alluring variation.

Since 1975 I’ve only had the chance to sell this 45 in these clothes, twice in my life, ironically this is the same copy we auctioned back in February 2005.

Incredibly RARE! If you like to boast ownership of the top flight NS classics in their very rarest form - do not pass by. Who knows the copy could even be the one I saw @ the Casino 37 years ago…

Edwin Starr

Agent Double O Soul C/w Back Street

The power of youth - the Soul Club goers of the late 60’s and early 70s sparked EMI on numerous occasions to release back catalog to meet the groundswell caused by DJ’s.

In 1971 Tamla Motown UK issued their very first 45 pulled from the Ric Tic catalog. Before you today is a flawless “like new” DEMO of that release.

If you seek only the finest possible condition whilst acquiring TMG DEMO’s then this is a 45 you will never have to upgrade. But if like many the lure of the Green & White demo is irresistible - we do have and EX+ / skrm copy on the website for perhaps a fraction of what this copy will achieve.

CONDITION is EVERYTHING!

Lovations

Later Baby

Get on at the ground floor! on this 1969 Washington, D. C. creation and the girls 2nd. release for the label.

Although this disc has been known, talked about and highly regarded for literally decades - it is only recently, that a few DJ’s have lifted awareness of this stunning girl-group Northern Soul stroller with early doors turntable exposure which will slowly but surely blossom into full-blown dance-floor action.

Take a listen and you’ll be asking why it’s took until 2012 for this luscious Cardell Eaton session to get the exposure it deserves.

Sitting comfortably between solid Northern Soul and Crossover coolness. The young-girl lead vocal, is prompted by a strong chopping horn section and teammates who lift the hairs on your neck with there chirpy interventions.

This is awesome! shame on me - shame on you for allowing such brilliance to sit on the subs-bench whilst clogging bloated skill-less music takes to the field of Northern Soul…

The Lovations - get them on the pitch and change the game…

Shy Guy C/w How Was Your Weekend

So very sought-after on two different Black-music scenes.

Topside is finger-clicking Northern Soul delight, driven by full vocal group backing, strings and relentless easy to dance to tapping beat. A truly superb dance session that never received the NS attention it deserved, as this 45 suffers from extreme rarity;

Mainly due to the 60s demand from vocal-harmony group collectors, hoovering the very few copies up for the beautiful Jimmy Conwell composed harmony flipside.

Demand in Los Angeles was so strong for this stand-out ballad, a re-issue emerged in the 80s. Which then sparked awareness and a few Northern Soul spins.

Here’s the rarely seen authentic 1964 ORIGINAL, expect competition from both sides of the pond…

Love Just Begun C/w You've Got To Be Willing

Oakland’s Ricardo Lewis the man who gave us the timeless Eddie Foster - I Never Knew - produces Capitol recording artist with a reputation for the booming vocal style - attacks two Smith & Hines Soul compositions to create a double helping a RARE bay area Northern Soul!

Top side was first played by the Cleethopes Pier’s leading innovator DJ “Poke” it was way ahead of it’s time, maybe a little too powerful for it’s own good, whilst “Rain - Out Of My Mind - was then the main floor-filler.

But over the last 4 decades it’s reputation on the occasional plays has lifted this 45 to where it belongs - a highly sought, highly respect slab of NS.

Click the soundfile to try and chose which side you like the best - listen carefully as this 45’s vinyl looks only VG but as you can hear plays totally superb. That is why I’ve used the contradicting grade of looks VG plays Excellent!

A chance to own a real-BIGGIE under it’s value - maybe - if your lucky.

Your Not Loving A Beginner

Currently and deservedly enjoying a huge Northern Soul renaissance, fantastic to see real-deal SOUL dance tunes sharing the turntables with the over-done NS classics.

Refresh your mind and catapult yourself back to Cleethorpes Pier, Blackpool Mecca when classic style Northern Soul rubbed shoulders with some truly superb mid-paced soul tunes. This being one of the very best of them..

Clevelander Jesse Fisher noted for the expressive sandpaper-honed vocal is guided by NS icon Mike Terry who’s roller-coaster arrangement lifts to it’s peak

*NOTE: mispelt title “YOUR” instead of “YOU’RE”

First press white label red text variation in just sublime flawless condition

After seeing several items here that are the same as I sold to John Anderson, it set me to wondering who owned them now - things like the Canadian "The Larue", the De-Lites etc. Or anything as far as it goes...

If you own any and you don't mind letting me know (via pm if you prefer) I would be very appreciative.

regards,

RB

Crazy price Dave and not one for the dancers with the syncopation going on - but Jesse Fisher and the Tommy Neal demo went for unusually rational prices for a JM auction  Edited by ClearVinyl

Amazed no one has commented on this price...more than I thought it would achieve for sure...and I do appreciate how rare it may well be.

That said, I bet it isn't as rare as a Japanese Decca copy...surely that is the rarest format...maybe John was unaware of its existance when spinning the description.

Quite surprised at how much people pay for Will Collins & Willpower - Anything I Can Do on Bareback.

See far more Bareback copy's than Italian Darby copy's & they normally go for around half the price & also come with a picture cover (well sort of pic cover!).
