Butch has been playing a F/W acetate by Joe Adams as well (I think it is Joe Adams) called Stop. Absolutely brilliant to these ears. First heard it at one of the Thorne summer specials and it blew me away first time. There's an excellent CD by Philly Archives called the Best of Del Val Records. According to this Pentagon with 7 releases is related (Vince Apollo etc). According to the CD 1005 came out twice, as Bob says and then Ever Again/Thats Not Half BAd (version two). Amongst others The Magnetics on Ra-Sel is a Joe Stevenson production and recording as well.
Chalky Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Here's the discography bit from the CD booklet.....I've scanned it rather than type cause it's Sunday and I'm too lazy
Guest sharmo 1 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Here's the discography bit from the CD booklet.....I've scanned it rather than type cause it's Sunday and I'm too lazy Hi chalky how you doing chap well Dave had all of the acetates Carl fortnum had the Dynamic Syblims which i'm sure he still spins and i turned down the Karla D. which was £50.00 at the time he had a few others as well regards Simon.
boba Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 there are more records on ra-sel, if that's related -- e.g. two 45s by the metros and one by the uptites
Dave Moore Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 The full story of Joe Stevenson's Imperial Sound Studios which included his Del-Val recordings is all in the new book - Philadelphia - The City Of Brotherly Soul. (Coming soon). He made some fantastic records. Regards, Dave . 1

I'm doing good pal. Carl still has the Dynamic Siblings doesn't he? Some good tracks on the label for sure.

He probably had no involvement in the other releases.

Hi there i think the Metros on RaSel were written by Jimmy Smith who probly did the arrangements as i remember seeing his name on a few Philli thing's as an arranger and i'd have thought that (Jimmy ?) Seldon produced it so can't see any Joe Stevenson connection with that one>However i was told once that Yoland Carr was Karla D didn't she have a release on Rasel ? i'll have to check in the week when i get home sure it was called it takes two hearts or something regards Simon.

It Takes Two Hearts/Leave It To me - Ra-Sel 7103 One of the Metros was definitely Jimmy Smith.... Magnetics scan from evilbay....

Chalky Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 It's the same ra-sel label. Don't know about the producers, just making a comment on other releases on the label. I know it's the same label Bob, what I meant was related to Joe Stevenson/Del-Val like the Magnetics is production/arranging wise.

Md Records Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 (edited) A few bits of info off the top of my head - - Karla Denning did an unreleased funkier version of "I Bear Witness" - Ra Sel was owned by "Ray Seldon" and used Joe's "Imperial Sound Studios" for at least some of the productions, Joe Stevenson owned Del Val and jointly owned Pentagon records - Vince Apollo is the "M. Brown" on the credits of the Pentagon 45 , this is either Melvin or Marvin - I can't remember which - Joe used to get 500 cut of each title, if it sold he'd get some more cut. - Joe claimed that someone had told him that Kenny Gamble had heard "the Dynamic Three" on the radio, and was making sure it got no further airplay - hence the poor sales and obscurity of that 45. - Gene Woodbury was Eugene Woodbury and Joe thinks that he had been living in the U.K. for the last 20 years Sorry if I've repeated anything, and I'm sure there'll be a lot more fuller info in Dave's much awaited book!! Md Records Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 (edited) Joe Stevensons biggest success was with "Interpretations - Snap Out - Bell" , unfortunately the Amy Mala Bell set up went through financial problems/takeover issues after that and "Bernie Williams - Ever Again" didn't fare so well!! Could some kindly soul with more technical ability than me post up the yout tube clip of the interpretations performing on the "Hy Lit" show - fantastic!!!!!! Guest Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 #1011 Bernie Williams Been after one of these for a while...finally snagged one! Sublime mid-tempo...steady drumming, sophisticated guitar work, sympathetic brass stabs and killer harmonies! 1:52 to 2:25 is...is...is simply gorgeous and just right to shuffle around to! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y0_GQl3I7M
Premium Stuff Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) Are Del-Val demos rare? Especially thinking of the earlier series releases with the blue and silver issues (e.g. Casinos). Cheers Richard Edited December 8, 2013 by Premium Stuff
