There's a series of these Jim. I had one with Living Above Your Head on it. But I don't think it was on Capitol, it was a UK release. Memory of this is very vague as I didn't have it for long, and it was over 15 years ago.

It's a budget priced album from the 80s I think. Must have been part of a series as I've got an album with a really similar design and it's got some nice garage and folk tracks like Standells, - Dirty Warder, Count 5 - Psychotic Reaction, Outsiders - Time Won't Let me, Steve Miller - Living in the USA, Stone Ponies - Different Drum. Gordon Lightfoot, Joe South etc...

Woolworth's had these in quantity in the early/mid 80s. I'll always be thankful that I bought this LP, otherwise I may never have heard the Isley's original 60s version of "Who's that lady"

I have the Isley's on USA 45 as well and I love it. Not easy to track down in mint condition though, mine is only ex condition, my quest for a mint stock and demo continues

This album and the others in the series would have been imported from Europe by Conifer Records. They had a sales force who sold to most of the record chains in the UK but probably not the small one man shops. The titles they stocked mainly came from the Netherlands, France and Germany, and would be from the Capitol and Liberty back catalogue plus some specialist Classical music labels. UK EMI didn't seem to bother issuing old recordings but demand in Europe seemed to be enough to make it profitable to issue these US recordings. For example UK EMI had a "Best of" Julie London record but Europe had every Liberty LP she made available (at least 12 titles). I think they allowed fairly generous sale or return for shops, and the overstocks and returns ended up in Woolworths .

They sold for about £4.50 compared to the UK companies mid price range at £3.00 to £3.50, but probably a lot less in Woolies.

There wasn't much Soul product, most of it being 1940 to early 60s MOR, Jazz , Big Band and Pop .

You're right, it's a tough 45 to find. I finally got one, but if anyone has a spare I have a mate who'd love to take it off your hands

In the Still of the Night: The Doo-Wop Groups 1951-1962
