Troops.

For some unknown reason I've had this image of an LP cover in my head all day and it's **** bugging me.

I had an LP in the 70's. On the front cover it had two northern punters trading records on what was supposedly Wigan Station. I can't remember the name of the LP.

I know it was one of those British "Cashing in on the Northern Scene" records but I would like to have one for nostalgic reasons.

Can anyone enlighten me on the name of this LP?

Regards to all

Think it was the Spark compilation LP - used to have it many many years ago. Gene Latter, Tommy Hunt, Wigan's Ovations, Val McKenna all featured on it. If my memory serves me rifght the records you could make out on the cover with the two chaps were : Rodney E Jones 'RnB Time' & Debbie Fleming 'Long Gone'. Remember buying them both on the back of this cover without even hearing them as at the time had never been Wigan. Think it came out around '75-sh?

Think I know the one you mean.

Where they sat on a baggage trolley sporting the obligatry coloured vest's?

If it was that one...I cant remember the title either... :wicked:

I'll rack through the cobwebs and see if anything comes to mind..

Craig.

Thanks to all.

I will try and hunt down the LP (cheap for the memories, shame about Wigan's Ovation).

Agree with soulsmith. I think it's the photo that has stuck in my head all these years. When I had the record I was to young to go to Wigan, so I aspired to the guys on the cover.

25 years on, I aspire to getting back there.

But will make do with Bisley on saturday night, off to iron my tank top & practice my swallow dives :D

Last Sundays backdrops & other dancefloor acrobatics were a sight to behold. Dont forget to iron the 16 button high waisters to go with the tank top!!

See you at Bisley,

AL.

Right you lot - before you start, the only reason I have this is because I picked it up in a job lot of (mostly jazz) LPs and I haven't got a clue how to get rid of it except chucking it in the bin.

Gogse, if you want it PM your address and I'll post it to you :)

Sorry Gave, you're not getting the last word.

Original 60's SOUL still beats (for pure heart renching soul content) the funky soul.

However modern soul has changed and there is a hell of a lot of modern (80's, 90's) albums tracks out there that blow my mind with political and humanity integrity. The Northern fraternity over looks these tracks (in the context of a night out) and as it should be, as a Northern night out is for fun and dancing. In the house listening to the album tracks, you have time to stop and take in the whole content of an album and have time to reflect on the meaning, rather than jump on the dancfloor at the hint of a record that just grabs you at the heart. There is still a strong support, for both legions of the growth of soul. People are still finding 60's N soul and that is mixed with the finding of "modern soul" records. At a soul night these days I can listen to Tami Yuro next to Terry Collier??

Time Marches On

I remember Wigan and will never forget those memories.

All the best

Have to admit I really like the picture, first time I have seen it !

Love all forms of black music from 40s Jazz to current day stuff.

Just sick of hearing about a bloody night club in Wigan for 25 years :)

Take care and God bless !

Can understand your frustration at not being there mate, but don't get so bitter about it.I never went to Stafford (gave up,grew up,came back blah blah),but still appreciate the tales from those who were still Keeping The Faith when I wasnt there.

I didnt go to The Wheel or The Torch either (to young) but have empathy with those who regard those venues as tops above The Casino,Cleethorps,St Ives,Yate & all the other ones going in my day.....Even though they were doing the blah blah thing then.

Oh & if you ever park in Station Rd car park I hope you get your hub caps nicked :):D
