Guest dkd Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Just got my hands on a copy of The Orlon's Spinning Top - what a fantastic bit of vinyl! Does anyone know of anything else by them that is worth listening to? - I have heard a few of thier more do-wop type of sound, which isnt quite my cup of tea. Thanks, Dave

Thanks, Dave Dave, couple of good tracks on Cameo. "Envy" nice track, but not cheap. Good cheapie, mid tempo is " I Aint Coming Back" about £15. Alan
Sebastian Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Does anyone know of anything else by them that is worth listening to? "Once Upon A Time" on ABC has always been a big fave of mine. Very pop-soul and extremely catchy. Have a listen: https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Orlons_...Upon_A_Time.ram

Guest Rowly Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 clips to 3 cheapies on my Sounds Page: goin places heartbreak hotel dont you want my lovin Don't you Want my Lovin - Big fave of mine and a regular play in my dj sets. Always popular with the floor too, and often get someone coming over to check what it is. Still cheap I think too... I paid $30 for a lovely mint yellow promo with factory sleeve a couple of years ago.

Guest in town Mikey Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 As has been said. Both siodes of Envy are superb. Was one of the lucky few who saw them perform both songs at the Rocket. Envy was on my first ever wants list.
Markw Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 clips to 3 cheapies on my Sounds Page: goin places heartbreak hotel dont you want my lovin Their version of Heartbreak Hotel is Elvis meets Northern! Picked this up cheap some years back on a UK Pye demo in a Bristol record shop.

Thanks, Dave The Orlons' amazing original version of the Searchers' 1963 hit "Don't Throw Your Love Away" beats everything else they ever recorded into a cocked hat. It's not a dancer, though, merely a classic piece of Big City Soul. Gotta love "Heartbreak Hotel", too - and also their post Cameo Parkway ballad "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby" on ABC is very underrated... TONE
Guest dkd Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Thanks guys - excellent stuff as usual. I am gonna try and track a few of those down - I liked going places, but not quite convinced by Heartbreak Hotel. Thanks again, Dave

Pete S Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Could anyone actually dance to Spinning Top? Must be one of the 3 fastest northern sounds. Fastest has got to be She tried To Kiss me by The Butlers.
