Dayo Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Not sure if I've asked this before, but there's a track that's bugging me, which I can't identify. It's not Northern, although in parts it almost is - not even sure if it's soul music really. The vocal sounds like Miriam Makeba and the feel is very Burt Bacharach. It's possibly a late 60's recording. Chorus goes something like; what is wrong with grooving.............. I really like it, although it's probably not a sound for soul purists. Any ideas anyone? Please. Ta! Colin
Guest Adrian Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Pretty sure it will be LETTA MBULU What is Wrong with Groovin, no idea on the rareness of the original but it came out on a Jazzman reissue. Hope that helps.
Harrogatesoul Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 If its the Letta Mbulu 45 - Its quite a hard one! Last one I saw went for about £175 - Big on the rare groove / jazz / funk scene . Been comped a few times and the afore mentioned Jazzman RI. ATB Rich
Dayo Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 I think you guys nailed it. Groovy little track - thanks! Col
Harrogatesoul Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 There's also a version (instrumental - I think ) by Hugh Masekela - Who wrote the track originally - not sure if its any cop though. Check ebay / juno for a jazzman copy of the Lette version shouldn't be more than a fiver. Rich https://www.juno.co.uk/artists/Letta+Mbulu/ Clip here too!
