Well you just did the maths to show where I get the thousands from. Thanks for that.

We run other venues, Cleethorpes Weekender, Xfire at the ISH and even Downstairs at the Rocket and they are all very well attended too.

I don't remember anyone saying we were trying to get more people in than the Mecca or Wigan, with a 300 capacity that would be tough. Still we should be flying past the Mecca in a few years then.

Like I said we do it for people who enjoy rare, primarily 60s soul music and thousands of those people love the place and visit regularly.

However that wouldn't include your namesake who claims to love rare soul music but lived three miles away for twenty years and never got his ample arse down there.

Of course its not in the same league it rises head and shoulders above the rest! Oh who gives a flying f**k about attendances, the mecca and wiggan were in the hey day, when every man woman and there dog wanted to go to either one of them, The 100 club has it all breaking new sounds, with one of the strongest residancy line ups ever! as well as embracing the old classics! Out of all them nights you mentiond which one is still going strong............Looks like i'll have to tell you because you obviously aint that clever! its the 100 club, says it all matey

As Baz says its not about attendances dude, its about it being the 100 club it has stood the tests of time and is infamous everywhere, just like the casino was. Who cares about numbers on the doors!!!!! except those that concentrate on the money/corporate aspect of soul, rather than the Soul itself. Who gives a damn about who makes what on a record!!!! if I like something, I buy it, not cos its worth x number of pounds,

If you cast your mind back Gavin was booted off a while back for expressing his opinions under his real name so he has obviously had to use another name.

I bet his posts are removed from this thread.

I guess he taped the sets at the Rocket more or less in revenge for certain people sabotaging the event when it was originally set up. Whether you think thats pathetic is neither here nor there, but so what...he hasn't killed anyone for Gods sake.

It would be nice to actually see someone else putting their point of view. I like Gavin a lot anyway, he would be very interesting to have around on here.

i second that emotion, on a forum based level gav can be an antagonising bathplug, but he only casts the bait

it's down to the individual to swallow it.

that's what democracy is all about, i see lot's of threads of a derisory nature et al the constant bemoanig of anything post dec 31st1969 etc. but i choose to ignore them.

that's the secret,on a personal level gav's a top fella' he's chalk and cheese betwixt the real world and here, greetings long shanks, how the devil are you.

i will name names, it was the almighty BUTCH who bought the record from north Carolina for $200 and then sold it to GINGER for £800 .

and then later Ginger thought it was a con and had a go at Ian , when it was nothing to do with him

Fact is that Butch made the most money out of the four vandalls not Ian

On the one hand you describe the Four Vandals as a "Hustle" and of "plots being hatched" and "one big joke that fooled you all" and now you try to recant and claim that no wrongdoing was intended and that others on the scene are to blame for the whole sorry mess. This is even after you've provided evidence of how the record was given a half-baked cover story to purposely mislead people into believing it was an authentic piece.

If, as you claim it was intended as a harmless prank to show up the folly of the Northern/Rare Soul scene, then it didn't work. If it was intended as something a lot more sinister, then it hasn't really worked either.

Granted, the idiots who allegedly paid big money for it should have been more clued up as it's not even a convincing hoax, but who is the real loser here?

A wise promoter once told me that it does not matter what size the venue is so long as it is relatively full of happy punters and they all enjoy themselves.

It is down to the person paying their money on the door, if you do not like a venue - don't go!

As a promoter you want to entertain the crowd, cover your costs such as venue and DJ's. If you make abit extra then that's a bonus. The 100 Club is my fav place - and always will be.

So get over numbers thru the door.

Good music, good people - or am I missing something?

Spot on Sharona that's what its all about the music and the people, thats what makes a good soul nite. Smaller venues all around the country may have only 50 through the doors, but 9 times out of ten they are excellant nites and ones that individuals will remember and return too.

and as for 24 years and not gone down thier, !!!!! Ian Dj thier For you, perhaps your mind is not as good as it used to be , you must remeber the night, when he took the piss and played pressings and packed the dance floor LOL

Thanks you've just gave us another reason why the fat waste of space has no room on this scene.

Keep it up

I agree - no one wants to lose money when promoting. Being part of a long running promoting team we've only lost on 2 or three events in over 14 years.

So we must be doing something right - ha ha.

If it was about making money, North Wales wouldn't have had any Soul nights on in the last 30 years yet we've had a great nights throughout all those years and still running them. We do it for the love of the Music not to make money, yes it's nice to put a few pounds in your pocket, more often than not it been the other way around, Guest DJ's, hire of venue etc don't come cheap yet we still do it. I'm sure the same thing goes on all around the country. We all know the guys who make their living running nights and good luck to them, you either attend or don't.

Two points here:

1. So it's ok for you to tape a DJ's set, but if I put a clip that is approximately 7 seconds long on the web I'm a thieving c**t depriving Dean Parrish of his livelihood. Hilariously, I remember Gavin trying to justify the taping of Butch & Ady's sets by saying that the music should be available to everyone and not just the priveleged few. Smacks of double standards a bit doesn't it.

2. Amazingly Dean Parrish didn't actually see it like that when I spoke to him about putting the clip on the 100 Club website, in fact I'm quite positive he didn't call me a thieving c**t when he said thanks for putting him on the front cover of Soulful Kinda Music. Same as when he left a signed photo for me with Ady, he didn't call me a thieving c**t then either, same as when he moved he emailed me his new address so we could keep in touch, and I'm fairly sure he wouldn't want to keep in touch with someone he thought was a thieving c**t.

Still if that's your opinion of me, I can live with that. I know I'm not a thieving c**t, and I bet you couldn't find one person to agree with you, either on this site, or any other site, or even on the Northern scene as a whole. Incidentally, the clip was filmed at the 100 Club, not Cleethorpes but there again I forgot, you don't attend venues do you, so you wouldn't know the difference.

You must lead a really lonely existence in that world of your own.

Oh yes. Been to a few nights with low attendance and still had a great time.

Keep on keeping on.

No apologies not needed mate. Well from a Spurs sportsmanship perspective maybe.

I'd personally love to see a full length set of Dean Parrish having never actually witnessed him performing live..

Get it all at the 100 Club baby yeah. Big tall thin or fat, I wish your mate could have come with us to every allnighter there over the year's, it would I'm sure quell his crap spouting a tad.

I'm not sure what Sidecar Sid's on about but for the record Dean and I and the Diplomats and I are good friends and there's never been any problem with a few seconds of footage that may have appeared or been linked to the 6TS web site. www.6ts.info

i think the term clients is more suitible than freinds, as that is what they are to you, tools to attract punters to your gigs , not friends, that is unless you buy them to . or are you saying every body that goes or works at your gigs are your friends ............................
