Think I've seen the Dells at 50 / 60 but balked at that price on ebay. Not just the boots going for daft money.. Rich
Kristoffer Ahl Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 (edited) Rare Pleasure usually goes for about £30 - £50. But £100+ is just plain silly... // Kristoffer Edited April 15, 2006 by Kristoffer Ahl

Guest Gavin Page Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Yet again it's all going bloody mad !!!!!! Those two prices are just stupid
Guest Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Proves a point again- a record is 'worth' what some one will pay for it. I paid five pounds for something the other day and I'm so pleased with it 'cos I really like it a lot. Dunno what its 'worth'.
Sutty Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 why do people pay these sort of prices? I sold a copy of the rare pleasure 45 on my site last month for £10 and it was there for over a month before it sold. don't these people look around for records? I made a profit so i'm happy and the guy that bought it is, he got a record he wanted for the right price, do people just get ebay fever or something? this is not a rare record on 7 - was it the 7 that sold? I know the 12 goes for more as it's in demand with the disco collectors and there are less copies about. cheers Sutty
slimharpo Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 I have a UK copy of Rare Pleasure with the Demo sleeve. 20p I think it was. It's quite good IMO but nowhere near what was paid on ebay. I have the 4 Tops version of Your Song in a pic sleeve with a release sheet. What is the story on this, was it withdrawn? I like the Laura Lee version the best, which was the original? Am I asking too many questions? Cheers

Am I asking too many questions? Cheers I'm pretty sure that Laura Lee came out first, she had 'gone gospel' by the time the Four Tops version was released in (from memory 1984-5). I don't believe that the Tops version was withdrawn, I sold plenty of copies of it as a new release in Cavern Records in Lewisham, and there were never any stock problems. Love Levi and Laura to bits, but you just can not beat the great Marvin Junior on this one! TONE
Guest Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 The Four Tops version of "Your Song" got a full UK 12" release at least. Was it on Calibre ? My copy is long gone now but I think the mix must have been messed with because from memory it didnt work at all.

Yes, the 12 inch - which was on Calibre - was 'corrupted', but The 7 inch is fine, Simon. If you get a chance to grab one, it's worth doing so... T
Mike Shawe Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) The price of RP may have inflated owing to the fact that it was sampled by David Morales for the disco house track "Needing You" a few years back and all the sample chasers are now aware of it, case in point being "What About My Love" & The Shapeshifters. Soul Shrews Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) Are we talking "Let me down easy" here? If so isn't the First Choice version much more like the dog's whatnot's? Edited April 16, 2006 by soul shrews
Mike Shawe Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 We are talking Rare Pleasure, but I don't know the First Choice verison of "Let Me Down Easy"??? The Chi-Lites "My First Mistake" also uses the same piano line btw. Are we talking "Let me down easy" here? If so isn't the First Choice version much more like the dog's whatnot's?

Guest stash313 Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 If we're talking samples don't forget The Freemasons Love On My Mind with Jackie Moore's This Time Baby. Also check out Christina Milan's new release Say I. Sampling another fantastic Jackie Moore record 'Clean Out Your Own Backyard' on Atlantic...

Guest marco i Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 First Choice "Let me down easy" (Salsoul records) 1979 From the LP"'Hold Your Horses" I've got the LP and love the song, even if I still prefer the Rare Pleasure version. Did it also come out on 7" or 12" single? The Chi-Lites "My First Mistake" also uses the same piano line btw. Mp3 or real audio anybody? Thanks

slimharpo Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Just in case anyone was interested in seeing the UK Promo Sleeve for this. OK maybe not.
Guest Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I kept hearing that 'Freemasons' record. Like most of that stuff the only good bit is the sample !
Guest Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Here's three minutes of the First Choice version - fantastic disco !LET_ME_DOWN_EASY_2.mp3
Guest stash313 Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I enjoyed The Freemasons as with The Shapeshifters, certainly big tunes in the dance and for that commercial clubs when they were released...
